WWE’s Summerslam pay-per-view event (should I still call them “pay-per-views” even though they’re available on the WWE app… what the heck) just around the corner and I should be excited. While it’s technically my least favorite of WWE’s “big four” shows of the year, Summerslam is touted to be one of the biggest events the company puts out all year so I still have high expectations for it. This year’s show should have some good matches, like AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe for the WWE Heavyweight Championship on the Smackdown side and Ronda Rousey vs Alexa Bliss for the Women’s division. The main event, however, is, how should I say this… looks like poop. It’s going to be Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Title. Essentially, the “main draw” and the match that’ll probably close out the show is going to be a drag. I don’t care how the WWE claims that this match will be “huge,” it’s going to suck hard.

One of the biggest reasons why I don’t care for this match is, well, I don’t really care for either Brock Lesnar and especially Roman Reigns. Brock Lesnar used to be something spectacular when he first got his hands on the WWE Universal Championship at Wrestlemania 33 but, thanks to him nor really defending the belt on a regular basis and hardly competing, it’s no wonder he’s held the belt for so long; you can’t lose if you don’t compete. Basically, he already has one foot out of the door and why should I care for someone who’s ready to leave?

And Roman Reigns? While I will give “The Big Dog” credit as he can put on a decent match once in a while, it’s the general feeling that the WWE has been grooming him to be this big babyface champion that just made a lot of fans turn against him. It’s sad that the real big dogs in the WWE (ie. the guys like Vince McMahon) don’t listen to the fans and focus on the guys like Braun Strowman and Kevin Owens that already has the fans behind them. The WWE have been trying to push Roman Reigns as their number one guy and I’ve already written a couple of posts as to why he sucks and even how they can fix his image problem. But they still keep on acting as if making Reigns the top guy is “best for business.”

You know what, WWE? Just do it already. Make Roman Reigns win the WWE Universal Championship at Summerslam. Because, honestly, I, along with so many fans, are sick and tired of you guys continuously putting him in that “main event” spot just to chicken out at the last minute because you’re so afraid of the fan backlash. I give you permission to do it already. Not because you’ve convinced me that Roman Reigns is the best person to be the WWE Universal Champion but because you just wore me down and I’m just too tired to be mad if it actually happens.

First off, it’s time to let Brock Lesnar lose the WWE Universal Championship. As I said early in the post, I was actually stoked when Brock Lesnar beat Goldberg to win the belt. He was definitely a big attraction as he was unstoppable and I really like the idea of a monster that could mow down opponents. However, you guys overdid it as Brock Lesnar became too unstoppable. His matches lost a lot of their luster since, well, he never felt like he was in jeopardy of losing the Universal Championship. I mean, the guy I felt could’ve legitimately beat him was Braun Strowman and, when he didn’t, I just stopped caring for Lesnar as champion.

It also hurt that The Beast sporadically appears in any WWE shows. In fact, it’s kind of made the WWE Universal Championship a “low class” title because it’s rarely defended. The last few pay-per-views, I don’t recall Brock Lesnar showing up and putting the championship on the line. It’s come to the point where the WWE Universal Championship has become a non-factor in drawing people in! I guess you can blame that because it’s in Lesnar’s contract or he gets paid tons of money per appearance so it’s better financially for the WWE for Lesnar not to show unless it’s really, really, really important. But it’s come to the point where I sometimes forget that there’s such a thing as the Universal Title. It’s time for Lesnar to relinquish the belt to someone who actually shows up… and I guess Roman Reigns is as good as any other guy.

Now, Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar has battled it out already so many times for the belt. So many that I’ve actually lost count! Each and every time, Reigns has come up short and all of those losses hasn’t been good for him, in my opinion. It’s definitely not good when you’re supposed “next big thing” gets so many chances at the championship but loses all the time! How can you take him seriously if he can’t win? In Summerslam, we have Reigns get his nth opportunity at Lesnar’s WWE Universal Championship. Just give the Big Dog his bone already so we can stop all of these rematches!

The weird thing is I don’t get why the WWE is so hesitant with giving Roman Reigns the top prize on the RAW show already. He’s already won several championships in the past, including the United States belt, the Intercontinental championship, the RAW Tag Team belts and, get this, the WWE Heavyweight Championship three times! Okay, his first “title reign” as the Heavyweight Champion was very short lived as Sheamus cashed in Money in the Bank and toppled him quickly. But still! He’s a three time WWE Heavyweight Champion! Obviously, the WWE had no qualms before so I don’t understand they stop short all the time now.

I guess the most popular theory why the WWE hasn’t pulled the trigger is because the fans will hate it and they’re afraid people will stop watching if he does win the belt? Well, I have a secret to tell you, WWE. As long as you tell a good story to go along with the show, fans will keep watching. I mean, you made Jinder Mahal the WWE Heavyweight Champion, the most prestigious championship in Smackdown. Heck, you kept the belt on Jinder Mahal for around 5 months! 5 months! On Jinder Mahal, A guy who nobody wanted to wear the Heavyweight Championship belt! If you can give Mahal a 5 month reign, you can give the belt to Reigns as well!

I’m advocating for the WWE to finally have Roman Reigns topple Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship and, honestly, it feels weird and it’s making me rather nauseous just thinking that I’m actually defending Roman Reigns as the new wearer of the red strap of Raw. But, honestly, I’m just too tired to care anymore. Just end it already. Make him the champion and stop all the torture of trying to make Roman Reigns the face of the company. The WWE Universe is allowing you to get what you want. Not because you’ve convinced us that he’s the face of the business that we want. But because we’re just don’t care what you do with Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar or the WWE Universal Championship.

You won, WWE. I hope you’re happy… because the fans aren’t.
