This is going to be my first Themed Review for the Month. For the month of October, I’m going to try to review high end hamburgers. Why? No reason really. I just want to do it!
It may be very un-Filipino of me, but I have to admit I do prefer burgers and sandwiches over meals with rice. I just prefer the convenience of eating a complete meal with my hands. But, as much as possible, I always like to try burger restaurants that aren’t classified as “fastfood” joints. So, whenever I do come across a new restaurant that specializes in serving burgers, I always like to try them at least once… if I can afford it.
While I was in Greenhills (a shopping center here in the Philippines), I did see one tucked away in the corner of the Promenade. It was called Stackers Burger Bar. Since I don’t really go to Greenhills that often, I had a feeling this may be a good chance to try it out.
I took a look at the menu to see what looked good… but, if you look closely at the picture above, the restaurant was already prominently advertising one of their sandwiches. Well, since they put a lot of effort in making sure this was people saw when they went in, I decided to order the Jack Burger.
Looking at the “blueprints” of the Jack Burger, it did have a lot of the things I do want in a burger. There are sauteed mushrooms, cheese, lettuce and, most important of all, bacon. You can never go wrong with bacon in your burger! Of course, I got a side of fries and a drink with it because it doesn’t seem right to order just a burger, right?
As the waiter gave me my meal (they cook your food as you order, which is always a good sign), she also told me that there’s a glove included. This implies a messy burger and this actually got my hopes really high that it would be an excellent sandwich! The way I see it, the messier the burger, the better it is! Why? It just means there’s a lot in it! The thing should be straining to keep all of the dressings, condiments and toppings in the bun! Also, there’s a good chance the instant I bite into it, the meat would be so juicy that it would just drip around my hands!
So, before I bit into it, I just had to check out how it looked inside! Everything was laid out pretty evenly. Nothing was really dripping down the side. The amount of dressing, while not slipping down the sides, was adequate. Suffice to say, I was kind of disappointed that the burger was a pretty “neat” little sandwich.
Still, there had to be a reason why they give out a glove with my meal, right? Maybe my thought of the meat gushing out fatty goodness from within would be true! Once again, not really. Don’t get me wrong! The patty was done really well and it was juicy! But I guess I really set my expectation a little too high.. and all because they gave me a glove!
Overall, I’d have to say the Jack Burger was pretty good. I guess not having a lot of dressing was actually a pretty good idea since it didn’t cover up the taste of the other ingredients which can happen if there’s too much of something. The bacon was cooked just right as it was crisp enough to give the sandwich the right amount on contrasting texture to the tenderness of the meat.
Speaking of the meat, I’d have to say it was cooked really well. Although I do wish it was a little more rare than what I got, the meat was actually pretty juicy. Overall, I was pretty satisfied with the Jack Burger. It was pretty good in all honesty! But, of course, I still had the fries to get to.
The fries are not really anything special. They tasted like the fries that you get when you order at NYFD (NY Fries and Dip) but without the choice of dips. If you tried the NYFD without the dips, you’ve had these fries before. They’re thick and all but they’re just okay. They are just a side dish to the main course (the Jack Burger) so I guess it’s not really a dealbreaker.
Overall, I was pretty satisfied with Stacker’s Jack Burger. It’s a pretty good burger and I think I would’ve like it much more if my expectations weren’t so high (stupid glove). If I do pass by Greenhills in the future, I’d have no qualms returning here. If I do, I’ll have to make sure I’m really, really, really hungry because there was something I really want to try…
Have you tried the Jack Burger? What did you think of it? Are there any specialty burger restaurants that you think I should try? Please leave your thoughts in the comments section below!
