Hiya!
So, it’s nearly Valentine’s Day. So, of course my thoughts turn to love. I was thinking of making a post concerning my ideas on what a fun date would be or something mushy… but that doesn’t seem like fun. It would be too schmaltzy and it would sound dumb. Why humiliate myself with what I think a good date would be when it would be much more fun to humiliate myself by putting out a list of my favorite fictional crushes?
Yeah, I’ve noticed there are a lot of posts about guys putting out their list of fictional female crushes. Even this website has put out several lists of this type in the past. These lists, however, were all from guys. It’s time a girl got in on this action! So, let me go through just five of my favorite fictional crushes!
My brother was big in comics when I was very little. He still is to some degree. Me, however, I never got into them. I thought the art was pretty (most of the time) and I liked looking at them. I was more into cartoons and I did love watching animated programs with my brother growing up. This is precisely how I got to know the X-Men as me and my brother would watch old replays of the show on cable TV. While his favorite character was Wolverine as he was super cool, mine was Gambit because he was not only super cool, but he was suave, a ladies man and an accent. Even though I think I was around 7 years old, that still somehow did it for me.
I don’t really remember if I understood Gambit’s mutant ability when I was young. What I do remember is how they made him so easy to fall in love with. He was a notorious flirt and he had a smooth tongue. His Cajun accent gave him a lot of personality as well. It also helped how they made him probably the best looking guy character in the show! So, yeah, Gambit could charge me up anytime!
#2 Leon Kennedy from Resident Evil 4
Although good looks is usually the main reason why we all fall for a fictional character, this wasn’t actually the case for me with Leon Kennedy. I remember my brother playing the original Resident Evil 4 on his PlayStation 2 and I didn’t like his design. Yes, he was muscular but there was just something with the way characters looked in the game which I didn’t like. They just look pale and they all have bags under their eyes as if they haven’t slept for a week. I also thought Leon’s haircut, with the hair parted in the middle, looked silly.
That all changed when I saw him catch Ashley as she jumped off a ledge for the first time. I don’t know why but it was like some of my brain neurons activated when I saw that. I guess it’s kind of like the feeling a lot of female gamers had when they first saw this happen in Resident Evil 4 Remake.
After I saw this, I was never the same. I just melted when I saw Leon grab Ashley. I can’t really explain why. He still had the same ugly haircut but even that started to appeal to me. I even started laughing at his corny jokes. I’m really glad he’s had the glow up recently with the Remake and the upcoming Resident Evil: Requiem. More manly Leon Kennedy is always a good thing.
#3 Garrus Vakarian from the Mass Effect series
We finally have a non-human on this list!
A good while back, I put out a list ranking the romance options for FemShep from the original Mass Effect trilogy. I put Garrus Vakarian, the loyal turian fighter who became FemShep’s best friend as number 2 on that list. This is in no fault of his own as, if they made him a romance option in the first game, he would have been on top. I just couldn’t give it to him (although I wanted to give it to him, if you know what I mean) as I had to be loyal to Liara, who was my romantic interest throughout the trilogy. If I could have romanced him early on, you can bet all your creds he would’ve made number 1!
Despite not being of the same species, I still find Garrus Vakarian very attractive. Sure, it’s hard to get over his non-humanness but the reason why I like him is what he has inside. He’s a good fighter. He’s fiercely loyal. He has a sharp wit. He’s very friendly once you get to know him. That’s already enough but the thing that put him over the top for me is that voice. My god that voice! That slightly gravelly sexy voice! Combine that with the sharp wit that I mentioned and… oooh. Take me now!
#4 Squall Leonhart from Final Fantasy VIII
Okay, this is going to be a weird entry because the only reason why I have a crush on Squall Leonhart, the main character of Final Fantasy VIII, isn’t because he’s attractive. Well, that’s not entirely true as it is a contributing factor. However, the biggest reason why I have a crush on Squall is because of the game’s main love interest, Rinoa Heartelly. Rinoa topped my list of favorite obscure female characters because she was basically my introduction to the Manic Pixie Dream Girl character and I just loved her personality. Now, I though Squall was an okay character but, when I saw Rinoa drag Squall to the middle of the dance floor, my obsession for Rinoa bled into Squall. After all, if the girl I admired saw something in this guy, then there must be something about him, right?
My crush for Squall only grew as I watched my brother play through Final Fantasy VIII all those years ago. I just loved how stoic and silent he was, barely cracking a smile. It made him so mysterious and sexy! The thing that clinched it for me was when he and Rinoa were trapped in space and then Eyes On Me started playing and they both acted all flirty on the spaceship. Ooh, just thinking of that scene gets me a little teary eyed!
As I grew up, I did learn this was the trope. The outgoing girl drawing out the strong introvert out of his shell. I didn’t care. I already fallen for Squall because of his relationship with Rinoa.
#5 Prince Eric from Disney‘s The Little Mermaid
Time and time again, I’ve mentioned how much I love the animated version of The Little Mermaid on this website. I still honestly love it even though I’m more than a grown adult. I still like singing Part of Your World in the shower even up to now because it’s still my favorite Disney song! Suck it, Let It Go!
Now, this might be a big reason why I do have a crush on Prince Eric, the main love interest in The Little Mermaid. It’s my favorite Disney movie so there’s a chance this is why I love him so much. It also could be the other way around. I’m not sure.
Then again, there is a lot to like about Prince Eric. He’s good looking and it certainly helps that the Disney animators put a lot of effort into giving all of the characters in The Little Mermaid very expressive faces. He’s also really nice and kind. Also, if you think about it, he’s actually the hero of the movie as he is the one who did take out Ursula in the end, not Ariel! He’s the perfect man!
Byee!
