Hiya!
It’s almost time for the biggest night in professional wrestling. It’s been called many things. The Showcase of the Immortals. The Grandest Stage of Them All. The Show of Shows. The Colossal Tussle. The Grandaddy of Them All. I know Vince McMahon hates the last one but he’s technically not the boss in the WWE now so I can say it. To mostly everyone, it’s simply called Wrestlemania.
It did take forever for the WWE to finalize their upcoming Wrestlemania card, with new matches officially being added week after week leading to the event. Both Night One and Night Two should already be full by now so it’s time to look at all of the matches and me try to predict who’s going to win each one. I’ll be going through them from the ones I’m least excited for to the ones I’m hyped to see. We’ve got a lot to go through, so let’s not waste any time and check out what’s going to happen over Wrestlemania weekend.
Brock Lesnar vs Omos
Why? Why this match? Look, I do think Omos is… fine. He seems to have hit his peak when it comes to actual in-ring wrestling ability, which isn’t all that high. I will say it’s good enough. However, pitting the Nigerian Giant against Brock Lesnar isn’t really going to help anyone. This actually feels like a booker’s nightmare because of this. If Brock Lesnar wins, it drops Omos’ stock as a monster. If Omos wins, Brock Lesnar looks like a chump because he couldn’t beat someone of Omos’ limited in-ring ability. A quandary indeed.
So, I’m going to kind of go down the middle and have Brock Lesnar win by DQ. It’ll look like Omos is about to be hit with an F5 when MVP will surprise everyone with the Hurt Business rushing in to beat down on The Beast before that happens. Should be a quick match.
Woman’s Wrestlemania Showcase: Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodrigues vs. Natalya and Shozi vs. Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler vs another team
You know the WWE is struggling to fill in the Wrestlemania card when you have something like the Woman’s Wrestlemania Showcase. This honestly feels like a glorified excuse to cram in other WWE female Superstars at the Show of Shows. It really feels weird as they’re essentially throwing a bone to Ronda Rousey just so the WWE can say she’ll be at Wrestlemania.
You would think this would make her and Shayna Baszler the team who’ll walk off with the victory. I don’t think this will be the case. I actually think Liv Morgan will steal the win by pinning Shayna Baszler. This will anger Ronda Rousey at her tag team partner and lay waste to everyone in the ring but Baszler will eat the brunt of her fury for losing the match. This will set up a feud between the two, which I wouldn’t mind seeing.
Men’s Wrestlemania Showcase: Braun Strowman & Ricochet vs Alpha Academy vs The Street Profits vs The Viking Raiders
I will say the Men’s Wrestlemania Showcase is just slightly more interesting than the previously mentioned Women’s Wrestlemania Showcase for the mere fact the teams have already been filled in. It still feels like filler but this still has the potential to be good filler. I expect antics from Otis trying to hang with the Maximum Male Models, Ricochet and Montez Ford flying all over the ring, Braun Strowman getting his spot to overpower everyone and the Viking Raiders going hog wild at one point.
This one is also hard to predict as you could have a reason for any of the teams to come out on top and you’d be right in saying that. I have to go with my gut here and say Alpha Academy will eke out the win because, right now, they’re the only ones who have an interesting story involving Otis getting drawn into the modeling life. It’s still anyone’s match to win so I won’t be crushed if I’m wrong here.
United States Championship Match: Austin Theory vs John Cena
You would think I would be more excited for any championship getting defended at Wrestlemania. This should be especially true since the United States Championship is the default top title on RAW with the Unified WWE Universal Championship being on Smackdown. I will say this is a great opportunity for Austin Theory to showcase his in-ring skills against John Cena, who’s pretty much hit Legend status now.
While it would be great for Austin Theory to get a pinfall victory against John Cena in the Grandest Stage of Them All, I weirdly believe it’ll be a Cena Wins LOL moment. That’s why I’m not too excited for this match. However, I do think handing Austin Theory a crushing defeat against John Cena and losing the United States Championship would be beneficial to his character. The loss will give Theory a chance to reinvent himself into a more focused wrestler with the intention of trying to outsmart his opponent and win by hook or by crook in the future. I can see Austin Theory as a main eventer but he has to suffer a huge loss before that could happen. Wrestlemania can be that loss and that chance to become better.
Trish Stratus, Lita and Becky Lynch vs Damage CTRL (Bayley, IYO SKY and Dakota Kai)
I hate the Women’s Tag Team belts won’t be defended at Wrestlemania. Then again, I am happy to see Trish Stratus and Lita back on the Grandest Stage of Them All in an actual match. I do feel the feud between Bayley’s Damage CTRL faction against Becky Lynch has hit a natural stopping point, which is why I’m not all that hot for this match. Still, if I get to chant “You still got it!” when Trish Stratus and Lita hit the ring, then I’m a happy camper.
In the end, however, I do believe Damage CTRL will come out on top against Becky Lynch and these WWE Legends. It just makes more sense for the heels to win since Damage CTRL has kind of been not so scary as of late. It’s not going to be a clean win, though, as Bayley and company are going to do some underhanded tactic like blindside Trish Status with one of the Women’s Tag Team title belts to get the pinfall victory. This will allow Becky Lynch and the faces to beat on the heels and chase them off to close the segment.
Edge vs Finn Balor in a Hell in a Cell match
This should be the match to close out Edge’s feud with the faction that he created, The Judgement Day. It’s been a fun ride but it’s time to move on to bigger things, especially now that The Judgement Day has come into their own now with Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio being the focus of the story. This match might be the one to steal the show on whatever night they put it on. This also could be one of those matches that just falls flat on its face. This is why it isn’t higher up on the list regarding how I’m excited to see this at Wrestlemania.
This could go either way, in my opinion, but I do think Edge will come up victorious here. I expect Damien Priest to try to get involved but Edge will still manage to fend him off and get the pinfall victory over Balor. Don’t quote me on that, though.
GUNTHER vs Sheamus vs Drew McIntyre for the Intercontinental Championship
As Good ‘Ol JR used to say, this should be one heck of a slobberknocker. These are really big guys who are going to really go all out on each other. Sheamus and GUNTHER have already proved they can put a good match together. Adding Drew McIntyre just feels like icing on the cake. A really brutal bit of icing.
This is another match where it does seem anyone can come home with the win. I’m of the oddball opinion Drew McIntyre will win but at the cost of his partnership with Sheamus. The finish will be something like Sheamus nailing the Brogue Kick to GUNTHER but Drew McIntyre will shove the Celtic Warrior out of the ring and steal the pinfall victory. This will set up a feud between the two and this also allows GUNTHER to move onto other things, such as going after the WWE Universal or World Heavyweight Championships.
Bianca Belair vs Asuka for the RAW Woman’s Championship
How long has Bianca Belair been holding the RAW Woman’s Championship now? Well, she won it at last year’s Wrestlemania and hasn’t dropped the belt since then. Asuka was floundering for quite a while but she’s bounced back hard recently. Both have proven to be really good in-ring performers so this should be a good match. I just wish there was more heat between the two. That’s why I’m only moderately excited for this.
I do think it’s time for a new RAW Woman’s Champion, though, and I can’t think of a better person to take it from Bianca Belair other than Asuka. The Empress of Tomorrow has proven to be a good champion in the past so I wouldn’t mind her holding the belt for a while. This will give Bianca Belair some time to take a break for a spell before regaining the belt back at Summerslam or sooner. I’m sorry that this will make Asuka kind of a weird transitional champion but that’s just the way I feel.
Rey Mysterio vs Dominik Mysterio
Ever since he turned heel and turned his back on his family, Dominik Mysterio has been one of the most entertaining stars in the WWE in recent history. He has been able to come out on his own and he’s become a master of raking up all this heel heat. I love it. The only thing missing was him actually taking on his dad, Eddie Guerre… I mean, Rey Mysterio. It looks like we’re getting precisely that at Wrestlemania!
As much as I like the heel side of the match, I will have to give the win to Rey Mysterio. After all Dominik has put his family through, Rey Mysterio has to get the win in order to get this massive pop from the live Wrestlemania crowd. The loss won’t hurt Dominik too much as he and Damien Priest will try to steal the win by hook or by crook but Rey will still persevere in the end. Besides, as a reward, I believe they’re going to make Dominik the next King of the Ring afterwards. King Dom has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?
Charlotte vs Rhea Ripley for the Smackdown Woman’s Championship
I understand the WWE’s obsession with Charlotte. She’s proven to be a very good in-ring performer. However, I just don’t like her. This is especially true right now as they’re trying to make her the face here when Charlotte is just a more natural heel. I’m not a huge fan of Rhea Ripley but I have liked her work while in The Judgement Day so I’m rooting for her.
You would think this means I’m going to predict Rhea Ripley is going to beat Charlotte and become the NEW Smackdown Woman’s Champion, right? Well, you’d be… right. This is Rhea Ripley’s time to shine. She’s already been stealing the show with her partnership with Dominik Mysterio so why not make her the champ to add more heel heat to her? It just makes a whole lot of sense. Besides, any opportunity to take off the belt from Charlotte should always be taken. That’ll show her.
Seth “Freakin'” Rollins vs Logan Paul
I really hate to say it but Logan Paul is a really good in-ring performer. He’s been very impressive every time he’s set foot in the squared circle so I can’t help but be excited for his match with Seth “Freakin'” Rollins, another wrestler who’s been known to give top quality matches. Putting the two together should be magic as long as something freakishly wrong doesn’t happen.
With all that’s happened to Seth “Freakin'” Rollins, I can’t see Logan Paul winning at Wrestlemania. I would like him to get a big name victory because, well, think of all the heel heat he’d get! However, Logan Paul has one-upped his opponent throughout the entire build-up to the Grandest Stage of Them All. It would be almost heartless to have The Visionary also not get any form of retribution at the end of it all. So, while I would prefer Logan Paul to win and just soak up all that hate, Rollins will have to win to balance things out.
Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship
I do wish the build to the match for the Unified WWE Universal Championship was better. Cody Rhodes’ return at last year’s Wrestlemania was definitely a highlight and it almost seemed as if he was destined to main event the next Wrestlemania he was on. I’m still excited to see this match but a lot of the heat was sucked out because of the other storyline involving Roman Reigns and the Bloodline. You know exactly which one I’m talking about. Oh, they’ve done a masterful job of hyping it up as much as they have, given the time they had. Still, I just wish there was more time for everything to percolate.
In the end, however, it will still be the Son of the Son of a Plumber who will be finally ending Roman Reigns’ year long reign as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. There is a part of me that would like to See The Tribal Chief steal a win at Wrestlemania because of the shock value. However, that seems very unlikely now as it’s been reported Reigns will be taking a well-deserved break after The Grandaddy of Them All. My money’s on Cody Rhodes winning but, as the WWE likes to say, anything can happen.
The Usos vs Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship
It should’ve been a very simple storyline. Sami Zayn would try to ingrain himself with Roman Reigns’ Bloodline and everyone thought they were going to just use him over and over again. Something happened, however, and the Sami Zayn story became the talk of the entire wrestling world. Most of it is due to Sami Zayn’s performance as well as how long the WWE stood by the story. I do wish the payoff would be Sami Zayn taking on Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania but having him and Kevin Owens take on the Usos is good, too.
Side note: I would love to get a Wrestle-Zayn-ia shirt.
The WWE would be either insane or incredibly stupid if they didn’t give Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens the win and give them the belts. Sami Zayn is still the hottest commodity in the WWE right now and giving him a big win at Wrestlemania just makes oh so much sense. Don’t be a dummy, WWE. Make Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens beat the Usos and give them their Wrestlemania moment.
Byee!
