Episode 168: The Stupidity of Slut Shaming

Hiya!

Last week, I wrote about how my real life never mixes with my online persona. I just like to keep the two separate as possible as my Internet self is much more uninhibited and adventurous than my true self. However, there are definitely some people that are incredibly okay with revealing themselves to the wild world of the Internet. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian definitely fits the bill here. She has become a very controversial point of contention because of her rather unrestrained behavior.

Now, I’ve never felt the need to keep up with the Kardashians. I’m definitely not a fan of hers. Actually, I don’t even find her all that attractive. I’m not a huge fan of the pouty lipped, big booty beauty that’s become all the rage these days. It’s the same way I don’t like overly muscular guys like The Rock. I like a more proportioned body shaped without any exaggerated or inflated sizes on any part of the body. If that’s your thing, more power to you, but it’s not my jam.

Eek! Don't eat me!

Eek! Don’t eat me!

Even though I don’t particularly like Kim Kardashian’s body type, I don’t have a problem with her flaunting it every chance she gets. She definitely likes the way she looks and freely displays it to everyone else to enjoy. She’s definitely realizes that it’s her big ticket to stardom so she obviously has to keep up appearances. And I do find it pretty amazing that, even after two kids, she’s always managed to get her body to bounce back to what it was. So I bet she’s doubly proud of being able to do this remarkable feat of metabolismic molding not once, but twice! Yes, I know “metabolismic” isn’t a word… but it’s the word I had to make up to suit how I felt.

While I’m okay with her showing all her lady bits on the Interwebs, a lot of other people don’t have the same feeling as I. Lots of people routinely bash Kim Kardashian for being a “slut” and that she shouldn’t be exposing herself as she sets a bad example for young women all over the world. The so-called social justice warriors just love slut shaming Kim Kardashian because she’s allegedly a danger to the entire feminism movement.

LOL? Why LOL?

LOL? Why LOL?

From their point of view, what Kim Kardashian and a lot of the women in the world that love to expose their body to get attention is setting the entire feminism movement back. They see a woman using her body to make money and not using her intelligence or not work hard to build a multi-billion dollar empire that is the Kardashian brand. For the social justice warrior, feminism is supposed to show that women are as smart as men, For them, women like Kim Kardashian who use their good looks to get by are the enemy. Hence, they feel the need to slut shame them.

Well, it’s stupid.

In my opinion, Kim Kardashian is not a role model. Not my role model anyway. And I bet a lot of other little girls out there don’t think of her as such. But she is free to do whatever she wants. She can go out and take pictures of her in provocative poses and such. Isn’t that’s what feminism is all about? Women being able to do what they want?

I do understand the motives of the Social Justice Warriors to slut shame women, though. I actually believe they have their heart in the right place. They don’t want the little girls who admire these “bad” role models to follow their “bad” examples. They want them to dress appropriately and not show… slutty tendencies, I guess. That’s fine and dandy but, at the same time, Social Justice Warriors are forcing their ideals onto other people and then they get mad when people don’t agree with their point of view. Hence, they feel the need to shame the “slut” out of them. Oh, and it’s to defend the children, of course.

Honestly, I don’t really care what Kim Kardashian does with her body. I honestly couldn’t care less! I just so happen to watch her when I watch TMZ… and she’s on the show a lot. I don’t get her appeal and I do think her antics are just the things she needs to do to stay relevant. That’s part of her job and that’s how she makes money. She’s become successful because of it. I’m not sure if she’s promoting feminism by doing so… but I do think it’s feminism for people to let her do what she wants.

Speaking of TMZ, I know the show is supposed to be trash… but I just love the show! I’ll talk more about it next time!

Byee!

Is it okay to “slut shame” anyone at any point? Let me know in the comment section below!
