Episode 139: Robin’s “What Up for 2016” List

Hiya!

Soooooooo… it’s 2016! A totally new year to pin our hopes and dreams on! As well as a totally new year to have them crushed by the yoke of reality. Okay, that came of as being cynical but I like to hope for the best yet prepare for the worst. It’s always been “my way” of doing things. With that being said, I’m still looking forward to this year with gusto!

There’s a lot of things in 2016 that are going to be good. One of them, I’m pretty sure of already but there are still a couple of things I’m looking at with cautious optimism. But I still can’t contain my enthusiasm! There’s definitely a lot of possibilities for this year and I’m going to list a couple of them here!

Graduating from college!

Yay? Well, maybe I shouldn’t be so excited about this…

Oh, I am absolutely petrified about graduating from college! I mean, I’ve been going to school pretty much my entire life and all of that is finally going to end this year! Like practically everyone I know, I have a strange love/hate relationship with school. Nobody likes the stress of studying and having to be graded based on the things you learned in the institution… which you probably won’t use once you get to the real world!

I mean, really! I’m enrolled as a journalism student! When the heck am I ever going to need to use calculus? Sure, I can pass the class but I don’t think I’m ever going to need to solve for the derivative of the something or other? I had to study this for so long and for what?

I... I totally forgot what this does.

I… I totally forgot what this does.

But I still liked going to school. Not for the learning or anything like that but because going to school let me meet a whole lot of new people as well as most of the weird and crazy things I did while I was going to school. And college was no exception! I may have hated calculus and a lot of the teachers and the waking up early… but I also had fun times there as well.

So, yes, I am terrified of not going to school anymore but I do welcome the change as well. Who knows what lies after college? Only time will tell… and 2016 is that time!

A whole slew of superhero stuff on TV and film!

It’s hard to keep track of all of the superhero television shows and movies that are coming out this year. On the movie front, we’ve got the big-hitters like X-Men: Apocalypse, Captain America: Civil War and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. But we also have a lot of newcomers like DC’s Suicide Squad and Marvel’s Doctor Strange. But the film I’m actually eagerly anticipating the most would have to be the crazy/insane Deadpool from Fox! The trailers make it look so awesome, especially the Red Band ones! In my opinion, Deadpool is going to be really good… or really bad! It’s a toss up and that arouses my curiosity even more… besides a few other things!

But superheroes aren’t just dominating the box office anymore! No siree! They’re out to take over television as well. We all know how popular the CW’s Arrow and The Flash are and I guess the television networks took notice! In 2016, we’re not only getting the returning Arrow, The Flash, Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter, iZombie, Supergirl, The Walking Dead, Gotham and Season 2 of Daredevil, we’re getting a lot of new ones as well!

In 2016 alone, we’re slated to get Lucifer, Preacher and Luke Cage. And there’s going to be Legends of Tomorrow, the one that’s sort of a weird Justice League of Time featuring the characters from the CW DC Universe (is this what they’re calling it? I’m not really sure and I’m too lazy to look it up). It looks like fun but really expensive! I don’t think Legends of Tomorrow is going to get a second season so I better enjoy it while it lasts!

It may seem like a lot and I can see why people are complaining about the abundance of superheroes in media now. But is that really something to complain about? I mean, if the television show or movie is terrible, then go ahead! But if there as good as they are right now, I think they should keep on making them!

Video games galore!

2015 was an okay year for video games as a whole. There were a few stellar ones like Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain and The Witcher 3. But there were some duds as well, such as The Order 1886 and Tony Hawk Skater 5. But 2016? I have incredible high hopes for the games this year! There’s the massive No Man’s Sky. There’s also Nathan Drake’s next (final?) adventure with Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and the highly anticipated (and very shrouded in secrecy) Mass Effect Andromeda. There are also going to be the games that have gotten relatively little fanfare like Blizzard’s first person shooter Overwatch. And 2016 will also mark the latest entry to one of the best RPG series I’ve ever seen: South Park: The Fractured but Whole.

What? It’s a fantastic game! It’s much better than Final Fantasy XIII at least!

But if there is one game I’m particularly looking forward to in 2016, it would have to be… guess? It’s Street Fighter V, of course! It’s the main reason why I wanted to get a PS4 in the first place as it’s not coming over to the Xbox One! I just had to get Sony’s console. I’ve been playing a bit of the beta test (with Vega/Balrog, as usual) and it’s… good. I’m not sure what kind of changes they’re going to implement but, from what I’ve played, I think it’s going to be great!

However, based on my experience with it’s predecessor, Street Fighter IV and all of its other “editions,” there are some aspects of Street Fighter V I do hope to see when it does get released on February. And I’ll mention what they are next week!
