Hello, and welcome to the 2025 “Awards” To Give The Game Awards annual post! Yes, for the past few years, I’ve been watching The Game Awards hosted by Geoff Keighley and I’ve been giving each year’s show some honorable awards.
While a lot of other websites will be nominating the regular things like “Best Reveal” or talk about if they gave the award to the right person, this isn’t going to be like that. Rather, I take the time to look at the overall show and give “awards” to some of the more special moments and interesting things that happened throughout The Game Awards.
So, let’s go look at five “award worthy” moments from Geoff Keighley’s latest Game Awards show!
The “Won’t Somebody Please Think of the Children!” Award
Although The Game Awards show is always going to be technically rated “M” for Mature, not many viewers really take it all that seriously. After all, there is no way Geoff Keighley will show something that would cause parents to go on an uproar because of violence and sexual content, right? Right?
And the winner for the Won’t Somebody Please Think of the Children! Award goes to… Larian Studios‘ upcoming RPG, Divinity!
Fun Fact: I purposefully had to pick a reaction compilation to embed here because, well, Larian Studios’ official YouTube page will not allow me to do so because of adult content. I guess they wanted to age restrict it because of all the graphic violence and that half a second of two adults copulating while someone was being burned alive. Well, it’s a little too late for that because I’m betting a lot of kids who tuned in to see The Game Awards live already saw it in all its uncensored glory!
Best “The 2000s Called And They Want Their Music Back” Moment
We live in a time when auto-tune musicians and K-Pop rules the airwaves. Hey, if that’s your jam, I’m not going to yuck on your yum. But, for me personally, I crave songs that focus on using instruments and come off as a little more hard hitting. It’s become more of a rarity nowadays so, when I hear something that sounds like it comes from days past, it tends to catch my attention. And there was one particular song that really stuck out during The Game Awards.
And the award for The 2000s Called And they Want Their Music Back Award goes to… GPTrack50‘s upcoming action RPG, Stupid Never Dies!
I’m not exactly a 2000s kid but I do like a good pop-punk song. Stupid Never Dies’ theme song definitely takes some inspiration from Avril Lavigne‘s particular take on the genre. And I really, really like it. I’m still not really sure of the actual gameplay as we only got a very short glimpse of how Stupid Never Dies actually plays. But it does remind me a lot of how Lollipop Chainsaw played. And I really, really liked that game as well. So, yeah. I’m probably going to get Stupid Never Dies.
Best “With Extra Cheese” Trailer
Sometimes, we forget that video games and video game related media is supposed to be fun. As such, we can take things a little too seriously. This can be problematic, especially today as we live in an age where life can really beat you down with gloom and doom. The With Extra Cheese Award is given to the folks to try to give us a little levity and make us remember that a little goofiness can be a good thing.
And the winner of the With Extra Cheese Award goes to… the teaser trailer for Legendary Pictures‘ upcoming live-action Street Fighter movie!
I know there are some fans out there screaming for not taking it seriously. But c’mon! This looks fun! I mean, I get it. These are the same guys who wants to see a high production version of Assassin’s Fist. I’m not going to say I don’t want to see something like that also. But I’m also going to be okay if they make a Street Fighter live-action film that leans heavily into the more silly aspects of the game. And the trailer does look like it will really dive into the cheese. As long as it’s plays it straight, I’m here for it!
The “I’ll Have To Cut You Off” Award
Imaging having to go on stage and presenting something to a large audience, both in a theater and worldwide over the Internet. I’m betting some of you would need a little liquid courage to work up the nerve to do that. Unfortunately, sometimes presenters can take a little too much liquid courage! This award is given to those people during The Game Awards who probably needed to stop drinking a bit earlier.
And the winner of the I’ll Have To Cut You Off Award goes to… most of the cast of the Street Fighter live action movie!
Now, I’m not saying everyone was plastered when they went on stage. What I’m saying is some of them were plastered when they went on stage! David Dastmalchian looked like his eyes were just glazed over and couldn’t speak. Jason Momoa was a little too hyped up even for Jason Momoa. Noel Centineo was giggling like a schoolgirl for most of the segment. I don’t think Andrew Koji needed to yell out every word. I guess they could just be super hyped for the movie… but I like to believe they all had a little sumthing sumthing before walking out on that stage.
By the way, a close runner up was Milla Jovovich. She was definitely sloshed! Whoo!
Best “Surprise That Didn’t Surprise Anyone” Award
Unfortunately for a lot of game developers and publishers, it’s becoming harder and harder to keep secrets. Big leaks have become something of the standard practice, with supposed big reveals being spoiled before they come out. So, even though The Game Awards has become the place for gaming companies to show off big reveals, they can fall flat because we already know what they’re going to reveal.
And the Surprise That Didn’t Surprise Anyone Award goes to… Leon Kennedy being playable in Resident Evil Requiem!
This should have been one of the biggest surprises of The Game Awards. But unfortunately for Geoff Keighley and Capcom, someone decided to use the official unreleased cover art for Resident Evil Requiem for the pre-purchase icon on the PlayStation Store. So, instead of most people shouting with glee that, surprise!, Leon Kennedy is in the game, most of them expected it. It was still cool to see Leon Kennedy be officially revealed as a playable character and see him doing all the same things he was able to do in Resident Evil 4. Still, the overall impact of the reveal was more subdued than it should have been.
BONUS: Weirdest Instrument Played By “Flute Guy” Award
Everyone who watches The Game Awards loves Pedro Eustache AKA Flute Guy. Each and every year, he goes in hard and always plays a cavalcade of instruments we’ve haven’t seen before, switching between them in the middle of the performance. This year was a little more subdued… but there was one instrument Pedro Eustache/Flute Guy played that really stood out.
And the winner of the Weirdest Instrument Played by Flute Guy is… a PVC pipe?
No, really. I think that’s what that thing is! It turns out he sometimes creates his own instruments by going to a hardware store and puts things together! So, the man actually creates new instruments from scratch! And can probably fix your leaky sink! God bless you Pedro Eustache/Flute Guy! God bless you!
