Hiya!
2020 is now here! I don’t have any New Year’s resolutions to make because, how can you improve on perfection, am I right? However, with a new year comes new expectations for things to come and 2020 is shaping up to be a year full of surprises and hyped up moments. That’s because there’s so many things out on the horizon and we are all slowly sailing closer to those events as the days move on.
There are obviously some things that I’m looking forward to more than others… which is what this post is going to be all about. Rather than just rattle off my most anticipated things for 2020, I’m also going to include some of the stuff that’s incoming that’s not getting as much buzz and may be worth waiting for. I’ll be breaking these down into movies, television shows, video games and events.
For movies, I’m really looking forward to…
Wonder Woman 1984!
Wonder Woman 1984 will appropriately be set in the year 1984. This time around, Princess Diana (played once again by Gal Gadot) takes on new foes in Maxwell Lord and Cheetah. There’s also a greater mystery as her former paramour Steve Trevor, who supposedly died during World War I, is somehow resurrected and hasn’t aged a day.
To a lot of movie goers, including myself, DC’s live-action Wonder Woman was fantastic. This was the film that convinced me that DC finally got it into their heads that superhero movies can also be fun. I really hope this line of thinking carries over to Wonder Woman 1984. Based on the trailer, it looks like it’s going to be, which is why I can’t wait for this film.
But I shouldn’t forget about…
Bill and Ted Face the Music!
Not much is really known about the 3rd film Bill and Ted film. There is a very brief synopsis of Bill S. Preston, Esq. and Ted “Theodore” Logan, now a lot older, have to reunite Wyld Stallyns and write the greatest song ever in order to save all life on Earth as well as the universe. Once again, Bill and Ted will be played by Alex Winder and Keanu Reeves, respectively. Oh, and Death (William Sadler) is also coming back. Excellent!
I am super excited for this film. Growing up, I first watched Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey on cable television and I loved it! It was funny, filled with slapstick and a ton of smart jokes. It was also super positive as well, which is why I think it still holds up today. So I do hope this sequel, which is long overdue is going to be as great.
For TV shows, I’m really looking forward to…
The Mandalorian Season 2!
I’m sorry, my Disney overlords, but I had to find and watch unlicensed copies of the Season 1 of The Mandalorian. That’s on you because you still don’t have it in my area. How would you expect me to watch one of the most anticipated television shows of 2019? That’s on you. I do have to say that I loved The Mandalorian and I’m so glad it’ll be getting another season!
Set right after the Empire’s fall in Return of the Jedi, The Mandalorian follows the titular bounty hunter all over the galaxy and, well, spoilers. I’m not going to say what happens but I’m betting most of you know already. I’m betting Disney marketing are kicking themselves for not releasing any Mandalorian toys for the holidays. I’m sure they’ll be ready in 2020 when the 2nd season is released.
But I shouldn’t forget about…
Wandavision!
Marvel is easing off the gas regarding their film projects as they’re going to help out the fleging Disney+ service by squeezing out television programs featuring some of their established heroes. Among all of the Marvel shows I’m giddy about, Wandavision is easily the most intriguing program they have on their schedule as it’s not going to be an action show. No, it’s supposed to be a sitcom? Count me in!
Wandavision was supposed to come out in 2021 but they’re squeezing it in this year! No concrete release date yet, though. I’m really super excited to see how Wandavision is going to execute this concept. It could be trash but it could just be so unique that it will blow everyone’s minds!
For video games, I’m really looking forward to…
Final Fantasy VII Remake!
The original Final Fantasy VII is one of the most beloved JRPGs ever. The game is held in high regard as a landmark title. The characters have become legendary and are recognizable by gamers everywhere. So when Square Enix revealed they were in the middle of developing Final Fantasy VII Remake, of course everyone immediately got hyped!
I will admit I wasn’t all that excited when it was announced 4 years ago. However, now that I’ve seen the game in action and all of the trailers, I’m jumping on the bandwagon! I am sad that Final Fantasy VII Remake will be going the action RPG route instead of the turn-based system but, hey! They have to keep up with the times! This is bound to be the biggest game of 2020 and I bet it’s going to be one of the best ones as well.
But I shouldn’t forget about…
The all-new console wars!
Okay, this isn’t a video game… but it is video game related. It was only a matter of time until Sony and Microsoft ditched their current video game consoles and push whatever system they have on the horizon. Microsoft already launched the first salvo in 2019 with a cute reveal of the Xbox Series X during this year’s Game Awards. Sony still has to reply to the onslaught but you can bet both companies are going to go hard in 2020!
While no official date has been released for Microsoft or Sony’s new system, there’s a strong possibility both the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation V will be released just before the 2020 Holidays. You can bet they’re going to promote the crap out of them and it’s going to be very interesting!
For geeky events, I’m really looking forward to…
E3!
2019’s E3 was a bit of a dud. There were some special moments but, with Sony skipping last year, there was just something missing. Well, since Sony’s new console is just on the horizon, I’m putting money on Sony returning in full force in the hopes to promote the crap out of the PlayStation 5. Microsoft won’t be far behind with the Xbox Series X!
That’s just the tip of the E3 iceberg. Since there are going to be new consoles, that means they’re going to be new games that will try to take advantage of all this new hardware! That means more spectacular looking games and more innovative experiences as well! E3 is going to be a battlefield and I can’t wait!
But I shouldn’t forget about…
Capcom Cup and Street Fighter V’s last hurrah!
If you’ve been reading my posts as of late, it’s no surprise that I like Street Fighter V. I may not be super good at it but it’s a game I enjoy playing. Moreover, I also love watching pro players who have the skills to perform crazy moves in the heat of battle. Well, this year is probably going to be the last year fans are going to see Street Fighter V played in a tournament setting because, with Season 5, this is probably the last year Capcom Cup is going to feature it.
With a new slew of consoles, Capcom is probably going to be announcing Street Fighter VI in 2020, ending all support for Street Fighter V. That’s going to be a sad day but a joyous one at the same time. This is the last Capcom Cup featuring Street Fighter V so it has to go out with a bang!
Byee!
