Burger Month 2025: Bun Run’s Bacon Cheeseburger and French Fries

Well, it’s the final week of Burger Month 2025 and I’m honestly sad. This has got to be one of the better times I had celebrating #NationalHamburgerMonth as all of the burgers I’ve had throughout have been good in their own way. Now, my only problem is if I can close out this year’s Burger Month with a bang. But I have a sneaking suspicion I’m going out on a high note as I have been kind of looking forward to eating at this location for some time.

As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t walk into Burger Month haphazardly. I do a good amount of research. This includes going online to places and searching for some of the more talked about burger places here in the city. And, way back in January, I spotted Bun Run. It’s located in one of the, shall we say, more posh locations in Metro Manila. It’s in a place that’s hard to get to with regular public transportation. So, I had to take a rideshare to get here. That’s how dedicated I was to get to this location.

I will say Bun Run’s storefront is… weird. Don’t get me wrong! It’s a very quaint place when you get in. The interior is small but very intimate. It’s a nice no-frills place to eat. The problem is the location itself. It’s placed in a very awkward spot as it’s right behind three electric posts. It does make it difficult to spot but, thankfully, the people who designed the store painted the outside bright pink to make it stand out just a little bit more while behind those posts.

Not the best angle of the place but it’s the one that I got

One of the reasons why I wanted to try Bun Run’s food is because of the menu. They have burgers and that’s basically it. Oh, they do have a chicken burger and a veggie burger… but those are still “alternative” burgers, right? Now, I did think of taking Bun Run’s only real “specialty” burger, the Patty Melt, which is kind of like a grilled cheese sandwich but with a smashed burger patty pressed in the middle. But I didn’t want to break the streak of just eating straight up burgers throughout this time. So, I decided to go with the classic Bacon Cheeseburger. Of course, I had to order myself a side of their French Fries. A part of me just loves how they don’t have fancy names. You want a Bacon Cheeseburger with French Fries? You get a Bacon Cheeseburger with French Fries! Oh, I also got myself a can of soda, of course.

Now, let’s talk about Bun Run’s Bacon Cheeseburger. You do get what you order with this and what you get is a smashed burger patty, cheese, bacon, a couple of pickles, some onions, their special Bun Run sauce and all that is in between a brioche bun. Despite it being a simple sounding combination of what a burger is, Bun Run does put these ingredients together really well. The smashed burger patty does have a really nice char on it but still retains some juiciness inside. The cheese is melted on top of the burger to give it a nice, gooey texture.

The pickles and the onions give a good contrast, both in texture and flavor. The slight sourness of the pickle cuts through the meaty flavor of the beef patty while the onions give a nice sweetness. Then again, maybe that sweetness comes from the Bun Run special sauce? Whichever the case, it does meld well flavor-wise. I was also pretty impressed with the brioche bun as it held up well and was toasted adequately to keep it from not sopping up all the liquid in the burger.

Yep, that is indeed a Bacon Cheeseburger.

Bun Run’s Bacon Cheeseburger isn’t exactly perfect, however. The bacon, while having a lot of flavor, was hardly what I would call crisp. Biting into it didn’t have the annoying habit of not tearing off and it did have a lot of good flavor. But I just didn’t enjoy it as much as I would’ve if it had some crunch. I also do wish there was, well, more of the burger. Bun Run’s Bacon Cheeseburger is priced at P365 Philippine Pesos. That comes to roughly $6.50 USD, making this the priciest burger I had for this year’s Burger Month. It was good but, based on the price, I kind of expected a little bit more from that price.

Let’s now talk about Bun Run’s French Fries. This was a mixed bag as they didn’t come off as consistent. Some of them had a nice crisp outside and a fluffy inside. Others were pretty limpy. I will say they were all salted really well and I do like it came with the Bun Run sauce instead of just plain ol’ catsup. At P150 Philippine Pesos, which comes to around $2.75 US, considering how much you get, I do think it’s adequately priced. Still, at the end of the day, they were okay but uneven French Fries.

Really wish they were better

All-in-all, I do think Bun Run’s Bacon Cheeseburger and French Fries was more than just a decent way to close out this year’s Burger Month. While I do wish their Bacon Cheeseburger was more filling and the French Fries could be better, I cannot really deny that both items tastes really good. I guess that’s the importance of when a restaurant only concentrates on just a few things. They don’t need to be really good at a lot of things. They just need to be great at the things they serve and you’ll still have some really satisfied customers.

Well, that’s it for this year’s #NationalHamburgerMonth! See you next year and I genuinely hope it’ll be as good as this year was!
