Episode 615: How to Beat Shishiro Botan’s Lily in Street Fighter 6 (With Generally Scrubby Tactics)

Hiya!

I am not someone who watches VTubers regularly. I am, however, who watches a lot of people playing fighting games and someone who plays a good amount of fighting games. So, when Capcom put out a new special V-Rival for Street Fighter 6, I could honestly say I didn’t know who Shishiro Botan was. It turns out she is a VTuber who plays a lot of Street Fighter 6. Even so, based on the YouTube clips I’ve seen of her playing, she’s good but not necessarily scary to face off against.

So, I really wondered why Capcom decided to make her the next V-Rival. Well, maybe it’s because I’ve only seen her very early forays into Street Fighter 6. Based on fighting her V-Rival, she may have improved a lot since then. She uses Lily here and she does make full use of her good buttons. She will liberally use Lily’s crouching heavy punch into the heavy version of the Condor Wind for combos and to gain Wind Stocks. She loves to poke using her back heavy punch and she actually reacts very well with it if you whiff an attack. Botan can also get tricky and do a Drive Rush to jumpscare you and then catching you with Lily’s Mexican Typhoon.

While I don’t think she’s incredibly difficult to beat, even if you’re a scrub such as myself, it can be a little frustrating, especially if you’re one of the 17 Lily mains out there who really want to get her special color. Luckily, you only have to beat Shishiro Botan once with Ken, Mai or Marisa to get the reward. If you’re like me, however, and you just want to beat her Lily with all 3 of them just to say you did so, well, here are the easiest way to do so with all 3 characters!

Mai

If you just want to get the color and don’t care about winning with all of the selectable characters, just pick Mai. She has the easiest path to victory and you will hardly break a sweat. If there’s one thing to take away from this strategy is Shishio Botan’s Lily doesn’t know what to do against projectiles. So, let’s make it worse by using Mai’s charged up version of her slow Kachosen projectile!

Simply back off full screen and toss out a charged up version of Mai’s light Kachosen. Once it’s out, move forward slowly. This forces the Shishiro Botan AI to do several and predictable things. Lily might just stop moving and block or Drive Parry the projectile and the bouncing fan. If she does, back away and toss out another slow moving but charged up Kachosen. She might try to jump over it too soon and land right on it and this will hit twice. If this happens, just back away again and repeat.

The last thing the Shishiro Botan AI might do is jump forward to avoid the projectile. If you have been moving forward and following behind the Kachosen, you should be in right range to counter any of her jump ins, even a Wind Stock enabled Condor Dive, with Mai’s Hisshou Ryuuenjin anti-air special. I suggest doing the light version as it’s the fastest. After that, rinse and repeat. Congratulations! You got Lily’s special color!

Ken

Ken’s strategy against Shishiro Botan’s Lily is remarkably similar to Mai’s way of beating her. The issue is Ken’s slow Hadouken isn’t as slow or as annoying as Mai’s Kachosen. Ken also recovers slower so he can’t follow behind his own projectile like Mai can. He does make up for this weakness with his Shoryuken special. More specifically, the Overdrive version of the Shoryuken. So, the strategy is still roughly the same but with a couple of tweaks.

You’re still going to be tossing out the slow version of Ken’s Hadouken and then wait to see what Lily will do. If she gets hit or blocks it, that’s fine. What you’re looking for is when she tries to jump over it. The instant you see her sail over the Hadouken, toss out either a medium version of the Shoryuken or the enhanced version. The timing is tight but it should work. If you’re not sure, then just block it out and find a way to back off to repeat.

If things do start to go wrong and it most probably will since you’re a scrub like me, don’t be afraid to toss out an Overdrive version of Ken’s Shoryuken. If you’re knocked down, throw out an Overdrive Shoryuken on wake up. If she’s jumping over your projectile and you’re not sure if the medium version of the Shoryuken will come out in time, do the Overdrive Shoryuken instead. Eventually, you will wear Shishiro Botan’s Lily down and claim victory.

Marisa

Things get significantly more tricky with Marisa. We’ve already determined Shishiro Botan’s Lily isn’t great at dealing with projectiles. Unfortunately, Marisa doesn’t have a projectile! So, what to do? Well, this is where I don’t have a clear cut path to victory. Then again, if you use the Mai and Ken strategies, you should’ve gotten the extra costume color reward, right? This is just gravy and for your own self-worth!

The best way I found to beat her Lily is to go for Marisa’s Phalanx, which is what’s more famously known as her “superman punch.” 4 things usually happen when this is thrown out at the range where the tip of the fist should hit. First, Lily will get hit, which is good. Find that range and do it again. Second, she’ll block. That’s fine. That should chip off a good amount of her Drive Gauge. Once again, back off and repeat. The third thing that might happen is she’ll jump over it and try to hit you with her jumping heavy kick. This is fantastic for you as she’ll be in grab range. Throw her and you should be in the right range to try doing the Phalanx again.

The last is the least desirable as Shishiro Botan’s Lily with react with a back heavy punch, knocking your Marisa out of the air. If this happens, Lily will close in your best bet is to do a wake up throw. Some liberal use of her Drive Reversal is necessary when she’s rushing in with a Wind Stock powered up Condor Spire. It’s your best bet as she’ll be plus if you just block the entire thing. It’s better to get her off you instead of guessing what she’ll do next while she has the frame advantage. With a little luck, you should be able to pummel Lily into submission. It’s not as easy as the previous two but this does work.

Well, that should do it! I know you didn’t have to get strategies for every character if all you’re looking for is to get that new Lily color. However, I did go through all of them and tried different strategies. As someone who’s not super good at Street Fighter 6, I do think these are the best strategies against this particular AI.

Now, when’s Capcom gonna add Wazzler?

Byee!
