Episode 609: Five Other Real-Life People SNK May as Well Add to Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

Hiya.

If you noticed my usual greeting is not punctuated with an exclamation point showing my exuberance, it’s because I’m kind of mad. I was very excited for the upcoming Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves and their announcement for the final few characters joining the roster. Well, I am miffed by SNK‘s decision for their last few choices. A few weeks ago, they announced world-famous football star Cristiano Ronaldo was travelling to South Town to take on the likes of Terry Bogard.

Okay. Haha. Funny. We all kind of expected Cristiano Ronaldo to show up in City of the Wolves in one form of another as SNK did announce this very early on. That should have been it. Have one single “guest” character from the real world. That would have been fine… but noooooooo…

Last week, they showed off the trailer for the next person to join the starting roster. Was it a mainstay like Blue Mary or Tung Fu Rue? Was it a new character with ties to the Fatal Fury universe? No. The latest character to join is Salvatore Ganacci, a “super popular” DJ. I put “super popular” in quotes because, before I saw the announcement, I have never heard of Salvatore Ganacci!

So, okay, SNK. We get it. You’ll just allow anyone to be a part of Fatal Fury. Even some DJ who most of the world has never heard of. I know you’re probably orders from someone “high above” telling you who he wants to be in the game and your hands are tied. Still, if you are taking requests, you might as well take mine for whatever it’s worth. I’ll give you five right now and you never know. That person from “high above” will read this and say, “Hey, that’s a good idea!” Heck, I’ll even give you a backstory for each character as to why they’re in South Town for free. You’re welcome in advance!

#1 Bill Goldberg

I happen to know the person from “high above” is a big fan of the WWE. This guy paid a lot of money to get the WWE to go to his country each and every year to put on a pay-per-view show there! It wouldn’t make sense to add a couple of his favorite wrestlers, namely Yokozuna and the Ultimate Warrior, as they are, you know, deceased. There is one other WWE legend he can still request to be put in: Bill Goldberg.

For his storyline, I would link Bill Goldberg to another pro wrestler in the Fatal Fury universe: Raiden. Ah, you thought I was gonna say Tizoc, huh? Nah, that would be too easy! The way I see it, Bill Goldberg, being a pro wrestler who stands for good, travels all the way to South Town to face off against Raiden. Unfortunately, Raiden has already changed from heel to face, taking on his Big Bear persona. So, with nothing else to do, Bill Goldberg joins the King of Fighters tournament in the hopes of fighting a heel opponent worthy of his skills.

#2 Xiao Hai

Since we already got someone on the roster who the fighting game community isn’t familiar with (I’m looking at you again, Salvatore Ganacci!), it’s only fair SNK put in someone who is very recognizable by the fighting game community in return. In that aspect, who would be better than someone who has made his career playing SNK fighting games. Sure, those games were mostly the King of Fighters series. Still, I bet Xiao Hai will make the transition over to City of the Wolves as well. Besides, he did win the Street Fighter 6 Esports World Cup tournament last year. Guess who ordered the creation of the Esports World Cup? None other than the same person “high above!”

For Xiao Hai’s story, I would go blatantly generic but tie it into his career as a professional fighting game player. Xiao Hai travels to South Town to compete in the King of Fighters tournament by mistake. He thought it was going to be playing the King of Fighters game, not realizing he didn’t sing up for a fighting game tournament. In actuality, entered a martial arts tournament called the King of Fighters. Even so, Xiao Hai felt more than up to the challenge so he went in with the intention of winning the entire thing

#3 Chuck Norris

In every fighting game, there is always going to be this fantastical kind of character. Mortal Kombat has gods like Raiden and Shao Khan. Street Fighter has people who can control mystical powers like M. Bison and Rose. Tekken has people who can control demons like Kazuya and Jin Kazama. The closest the Fatal Fury has ever gotten was with Jin Chonshu and Jin Chonrei as they were possessed by the ghosts of their ancestors. Still not as awesome or fearsome as someone controlling demons, though.

Well, it’s about time then for the Fatal Fury to get a legit god to join their roster. This is why SNK should find a way to get the only verified godlike being on Earth. Yes, they should get Chuck Norris to join City of the Wolves’ roster.

The story would be based on Chuck Norris’ life from the past millennia. Every century, Chuck Norris would eventually power himself down willingly for a day to try to mingle with regular humans. This still isn’t enough, however, as a mere flick of his beard would instantly KO someone for 2 rounds. So, even while powered down, Chuck Norris would have to brace one arm behind his back, tie both legs together and wear a blindfold. To test his power level out, he teleports instantly to South Town to participate in the latest King of Fighters tournament.

#4 Amouranth

So far, I’ve requested for SNK to add are all male characters. Well, I guess it’s time to choose a real female character to join Fatal Fury, right? Obviously, the goal would be to attract as many non-gamers to go out and purchase the new game. So, I had to pick someone really popular… and, for some reason, the only one I could think of is Amouranth. This is weird because I’m not even a fan of hers… but it feels right for some reason.

Funny enough, it’s very easy to write up a reason for Amouranth to appear in City of the Wolves. As she is a IRL streamer, she would travel to different places, including South Town. However, she does have a specific purpose. She wants to do a collab stream with Mai Shiranui. If that idea doesn’t sell copies, I don’t know what will!

#5 Shaquille O’Neal

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves will be getting a couple of crossover fighting game characters already with Street Fighter 6’s very own Ken Masters and Chun-Li. You can even say Cristiano Ronaldo and Salvatore Ganacci are crossover characters from real life. So, let’s do something better! SNK should add someone who is both a crossover character from a fighting game as well as in real life! I say they add the protagonist of one of the greatest fighting games ever, Shaq Fu! Yes, they should add Shaquille O’Neal to City of the Wolves!

As he is a basketball player, he travels to South Town to play a little b-ball with Terry Bogard and Duck King. During their game, Terry casually mentions the upcoming King of Fighters tournament. Intrigued with the idea of not just going against Terry on the court, Shaq, as a street fighter himself, wants to see if he can beat the Hungry Wolf in the ring as well.

BONUS: Steven Seagal

Even though most people would consider Bill Goldberg falling into the grappler archetype, I don’t really see him as such. He seems to rely mostly on big hits like his spear and strikes. So, we do need someone more dedicated to command throws. Well, Steven Seagal fits the bill, right?

What would be Steven Seagal’s story? I dunno. At least he would make more sense than a footballer and a DJ joining a fighting tournament.

Byee.

Are there any other real-life characters SNK might as well add to Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves? Let me know in the comments section below!
