Five Geeky Valentine’s Day Date Ideas in 2025

Well, it’s February and Valentine’s Day is coming up over the weekend. For a lot of us, including myself, it’s just going to be your regular Friday. But, for those lucky enough to have a significant other, now may be the time to sort of re-prove your love for one another.

While I may not have anyone to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year, that hasn’t prevented me from thinking of ways on how I would like to go out and have a blast with the holiday. So, with that in mind, here are five Valentine’s Day date ideas.

#1 Go watch a geeky action or horror movie in the cinema

For some weird reason, Hollywood has designated Valentine’s Day as a day when to release a superhero movie. Heck, the original Deadpool movie even had a poster which made it seem like the movie was some wholesome rom-com! I wonder how many people actually fell for that, only to be stunned by how much violence the movie actually had?

Anyway, this year is no different as Marvel and Disney are releasing Captain America: Brave New World the latest entry of the Marvel Cinematic Universe this Friday, which just so happens to fall on Valentine’s Day! Coincidence? I don’t think so!

Of course, Captain America: Brave New World isn’t the only geeky movie you can see with your date. If you or your date want your movie night to have a little more romance in them, there are a couple of movies out right now you can still see. There’s Love Hurts, which is a movie about a former hitman who fell in love with his target and now he’s become the target. There’s also Heart Eyes, which follows a couple who are being stalked by a serial killer. And who said romance is dead?

#2 Play a co-op video game

There’s always the joke about how a couple would finish each other’s sandwiches sentences, right? Well, it’s a gag to show how much in sync the two of you are. But talk is cheap? Let’s see you put your money where your mouth is and show how well you really perform as a couple by playing a co-op game?

There are a ton of video games out there right now highlighting the co-op gameplay experience. Games like Portal 2 and Styx: Shards of Darkness are but a few of the game where cooperating with your significant other is very important. But the crown jewel of co-op games with couples goals in mind would definitely have to be It Takes Two. In fact, in It Takes Two, you play a married couple who have to try to find a way to get back to normal after turning into her daughter’s dolls. It’s the perfect game for couples, I guess.

Of course, you don’t have to just make it a date between the two of you. In fact, why not make it a group date with your friends and try out the myriad of co-op games that are available. You can practice how well you work as a unit in a game like Chained Together and test your communication skills with games like Helldivers II. Or, once you get sick of each other, just mess around and throw our teamwork in a game of Overcooked! 2! That’s always fun, right?

#3 Binge watch a harem anime

In the world of anime, there’s always the question of who is best boy and/or best girl? The otaku world is always going to be debating on who is the waifu for the protagonist. That’s just the way things go. So, why not join in on the fun and go watch an anime like Trapped in a Dating Sim, Rent-A-Girlfriend and The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You are just some of the animes where you can try to pick who is your ideal girl and see if your pick matches your real life waifu.

To be fair, we can’t leave out the ladies, can we? There are a good number of reverse harem animes where it’s the gal who gets to pick out their husbando. You can sit down and watch some classics like Fushigi Yugi and Ouran High School Host Club. If you want something a little more modern, you can go catch My Next Life as a Villainess or Kiss Him, Not Me. But, if you want one that qualifies as a harem anime for both boys and girls, you can’t go wrong with the classic Ranma 1/2. Sure, the modern one is fine. But the original Ranma 1/2 anime can’t be beat.

#4 Tour the actual locations of your favorite movies and/or TV shows

If you’re both geeks, I can only assume you watch a lot of movies and TV shows already. So, why not visit the areas you’ve seen in those movies and TV shows? I totally understand this date idea is totally dependent on your specific location. If you’re in New York, you’re not exactly struggling to find these places as you would be able to find things like the Flatiron Building as seen in the John Wick films and the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies as well as the Firehouse, Hook and Ladder Company 8 fire station from Ghostbusters. You also can’t forget the Empire State Building from, well, pretty much every movie set in New York.

Outside of New York, you can still do some touring if you’re smart. For example, if you’re in Philadelphia, you can scour all of the places where Rocky Balboa trained and met Adrian in the Rocky movies. If you’re in New Mexico, you can try visiting Walter White‘s home as seen in Breaking Bad. Heck, if you have the cash, you can actually buy it (if its still up for sale). But if you do, be ready for fellow geeks like you disturbing you at your new residence at all hours of the night… which is probably why the owners is deciding to sell it in the first place!

Honestly, just be creative… and safe. I mean, maybe it’s not a good idea to fly to the jungles of Palenque, Mexico just because they shot Predator there. Just sayin’.

#5 Eat a meal from your favorite show

While you’re out checking out actual movie and TV locations, why not take things a step further by actually eating the food that the stars ate while filming? For example, if you are still in New York, why not go visit Katz’s Deli and recreate that scene from When Harry Met Sally while eating a pastrami and/or chicken sandwich like the characters in the film?

Then again, this is still location specific and it can be tough to go to some of the places. I mean, they might be really full because there are going to be people who also have the same idea. Additionally, a lot of the places and the food might be totally fictitious as they were just made for the movie. But this is where you can surprise your date with your superior knife skills by cooking up the food yourself!

Honestly, it’s not that hard to find instruction videos on Youtube on how to create some of the dishes from popular media. Channels like Babish Culinary University have been doing this for years already. So most of the guesswork is done! So, you can just see how to make something like Spinach Puffs from The Emperor’s New Groove as an appetizer, Cola Braised Short Ribs from The Bear and, to end it on a sweet note, Dessert Dogs from the Simpsons.

But let’s say you’re a couple who’s more into anime and you want to eat some of the food that blows off everyone’s clothes like in Food Wars! for example? Well, once again, there are various YouTube channels you can go to in order to see how some of the foods are prepared. Channels like Nadine Estero, Chef Mar and ChefPK have been showing viewers how to make your favorite food from anime into reality. That’s just a short example because I’m sure there are a lot more of them out there.

So, if you’re willing to put in the work, I would say you can go ahead and prepare your gal or guy a feast right out of an anime. Just don’t expect their clothes to get blown off like in Food Wars!… during the meal, anyway. Maybe just wait until later in the night. Rawr.
