Episode 480: Five Characters Who Need to Return in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves DLC

Hiya!

So, SNK gave us a lot of information about the upcoming Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. They just confirmed Mai Shiranui to be a part of the base roster and, in a surprising but very pleasing twist, you’ll be buying all the upcoming DLC when you buy the game itself, which will be releasing in April of next year.

There are a few more characters who have yet to be revealed for the base roster. However, based on one of the game’s earliest trailers, most fans have a good idea of who they’ll be. You don’t see them but fans who are familiar with Fatal Fury’s history have been doing some very accurate predictions as you do hear these characters’ lines from earlier games.

Now, I’m assuming this very old trailer is just a teaser for the base roster. This does not include who’s going to be a part of the 5 DLC characters, though. So, let me put my predicting hat on and toss out who I’m betting will be included in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves’ DLC package.

#1 Ryuji Yamazaki

The cold-blooded and very much crazy Yamazaki has proven to be a fan favorite for a lot of SNK players. Although he may seem a little out of place as he didn’t appear in Garou: Mark of the Wolves, he can still return as Billy Kane, who also didn’t show up in the last Fatal Fury game, was already revealed to be part of the base roster.

I do see Yamazaki as fitting in well with City of the Wolves’ gameplay style. Just thinking about him being able to cancel his Serpent Slashes into themselves would be terrifying by itself. I might be playing him but I can see him being a terror, especially in the right hands.

#2 Blue Mary

Despite first appearing in the 3rd Fatal Fury game, Blue Mary has quickly become another fan favorite character. Well, a lot of it has to do with her design but dedicated fans have long looked past the style and quickly were drawn to her substance.

What I do like about Blue Mary is she’s a neat mix of rushdown and grappler. She can quickly close the distance with Straight Slicer and Spin Fall and, if it hits clean, can then turn them into a follow-up grab. Well, that’s for her King of Fighters version. I’m sure she played a whole lot different in the actual Fatal Fury games but I’m sure fans will want to pick her up when she drops as DLC in the future.

#3 Rick Strowd

Fatal Fury hasn’t had a lot of luck with boxer characters as far as I know. Michael Max was utterly forgettable. I actually had to look up Axel Hawk‘s name as it totally left me. Still, there was actually a boxer character during one of the later entries who was pretty likable. That character is Rick Strowd.

I’ve never played a lick of Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 but, while looking up characters for this list, I ran across Rick Strowd’s gameplay video and I was incredibly impressed with his combos. The really neat thing about the character is, from what I’ve read anyway, he plays a whole lot like Vanessa from the King of Fighters games and I do love me some Vanessa! Unfortunately, Vanessa is not a Fatal Fury character… but Rick sure is!

#4 Duck King

While Mai Shiranui’s red kimono ninjitsu outfit is iconic, it certainly needed a refresh. While I do think seeing Billy Kane not sporting some kind of covering on his head, I’m also glad SNK decided to give him a fresh new look for City of the Wolves. So, a really big reason why I would want to see Duck King show up in the latest game is to check out how they would redesign the character. After all, punk is just so dated nowadays!

I actually believe Duck King would be a fun character to play with City of the Wolves mechanics. I kind of see him like Street Fighter‘s Blanka with all of his rolling attacks. I can just imagine the insanity Duck King could cause because of how he can create a lot of mixups with them. Oh, he’s also a colossal fan favorite of the franchise as well. So, yeah, people would love to see Duck King in City of the Wolves for that fact alone.

#5 Geese Howard

Yeah, yeah. I know Geese Howard is supposed to be dead. He supposedly died finally at the end of the first Real Bout and SNK made a big deal out of it supposedly being his final game in the Fatal Fury series. Blahblahblah. I don’t care! He’s Geese Freaking Howard! He’s the defining bad guy of the franchise! Get him back somehow. I mean, if Tekken‘s Heihachi Mishima can survive falling into a volcano, Geese should be able to shrug off falling off a building!

Besides, this list is just for DLC characters. Tell me: Who would be the biggest selling DLC character for City of the Wolves? Geese Howard! What character in the history of Fatal Fury would fans really want to see in the latest game? Geese Howard! What character would get people who like Fatal Fury but didn’t get it for one reason or another and get them to buy it? Geese Howard! Honestly, it would be so “predictabo” but it would work!

BONUS: Ryu

Hey, since Terry Bogard, the poster boy of the Fatal Fury series, is going to be a DLC character for Street Fighter 6, it’s only fair that the main character from that franchise join the roster of City of the Wolves!

Honestly, I would love to see what SNK would do with Ryu with the City of the Wolves game mechanics because he would have to play a whole lot different from Marco Rodriguez as the Kokugen-ryu martial artist plays a whole lot like a Shoto clone. Still, the mere fact of Ryu appearing in Fatal Fury would blow everyone’s mind! That alone is sufficient reason to add him!

Byee!
