Burger Month 2024: Burp Bros’ Bacon Cheeseburger

We’re in the middle of #NationalHamburgerMonth, or Burger Month as I like to call it because it’s much less of a mouthful. Also, I’m not in the United States, so it’s not as “national” here in the Philippines. Anyway, each time I do Burger Month, I like to focus on some of the more, shall we say, lesser known places around my area. I mean, the bigger and more well established locations already have a lot of people talking about the quality of their burgers. So, I think it’s only fair to go take a look at the little guy as well.

This is why I took a trip over to Burp Bros., a restaurant that’s pretty close by to my area. I’ve been looking at the place for quite a while as, judging by their menu, they do serve a good number of things that I would like to try in the future. But, for the purposes of Burger Month, I obviously have to try one of their burgers.

Before I do talk about what I ordered, I do have to talk about Burp Bros’ restaurant as it can be a little difficult to find. It’s by Boni Avenue, one of the main roads of Mandaluyong but not alongside it. You do have to travel a block away to find it. But, when you do find it, I will say the Burp Bros’ restaurant looks pretty inviting.

Didn’t expect it to look this fancy

Okay, like I said, while they do have a good number of things on their menu, I just wanted to focus on their burgers. And I’m glad Burp Bros. does have a good selection to pick from. I was really tempted to try something weird, like the Bunless Burger, but I did want to be a little more conventional as I wanted to give them as big of a chance to impress me and I didn’t think a Bunless Burger would be fair if I did get it and said I miss the bun. So, I opted for the Bacon Cheeseburger option, which did come with a side of fries and an iced tea. After all, bacon makes everything better, right? So, yeah. I’m really giving them as big of a chance with this order.

When I did get my order, I will say that, for some reason, I was expecting it to be something like a quarter pound hamburger patty. But, based on what I did get, it wasn’t quite that size. It was larger than a regular burger but not quite as hefty as I thought it would be. Let’s just say it was adequate.

Very quaint and simple burger by the looks of it.

I will say, however, the burger patty was surprisingly good. It wasn’t a patty that was dripping with fat to make it tasty or anything like that. Nor would I say it was dry. Rather, the beef flavor did shine through with each bite. I also did like that they did pile on a lot of bacon on their Bacon Cheeseburger. Also, the bacon was actually pretty crisp as well! And I do love me some really good crispy bacon! So, good on them! The lettuce was pretty good as well as it still had some crunch to it. The tomato was… just there. It didn’t really taste like anything but I was still glad it was there.

Sadly, I do have express my disappointment on a few things about Burp Bros’ Bacon Cheeseburger. My biggest issue is they used a cheese sauce instead of a real slice of cheese. Sure, you get the cheese flavor as well as the gooey texture. But you just don’t get the pleasure of a slice of slightly melted cheese with cheese sauce. There was also a lot more mayo than I was used to. The bun didn’t seem it was toasted on the grill as, when you do look on its underside, there weren’t any char markings. It may have been very lightly toasted but not to the point where you could see it. Still, the bun did hold up to all of the liquid cheese and mayo and didn’t simply turn to a paste. So, that’s still good.

Told you there was a lot of bacon!

The fries were, well, fries. They were basically your regular ol’ fries you would get in most places. They were deep fried and nicely seasoned, yes. They were also rather crisp on the outside and still fluffy on the inside, yes. However, they could be a little more crisp and a little more fluffy. They weren’t bad and I wouldn’t mind getting them again.

Overall, I did enjoy Burp Bros’ Bacon Cheeseburger as the burger patty itself was really good and the bacon was excellent. I also have to mention that the order I made came to just 220 Philippine Pesos, which is around $4 US dollars and I think that’s a really good deal. I also have to mention that it’s cheaper than a Double Cheeseburger combo of McDonalds over here in the Philippines. And I will say Burp Bros’ Bacon Cheeseburger is much better than that! So, yeah. Ultimately, I do recommend you do seek Burp Bros. if you are close by. I do think it’s worth checking out, not just for the burgers but of the other things on their menu, at least.
