Episode 560: Robin’s Predictions for Wrestlemania XL

Hiya!

Wrestlemania XL is this weekend and… I’m sorry. I’m not too excited for it. Ever since The Rock had to insert his Brama Bull nose into what should’ve been a very straightforward Wrestlemania main event everyone was looking forward to, it’s been kind of a mess. It didn’t have to be this complicated! Sadly, this is what we’re getting so I guess the entire WWE Universe has to live with it.

Still, just because The Rock caused problems, there are still other matches to get excited about. So, let’s go through them and I’ll go give my thoughts on what the outcome is going to be. We have a ton of matches to go through so let’s not waste any more time and let’s go!

The Bloodline (The Rock and Roman Reigns) vs. Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins

While the entire card for Wrestlemania’s Night 1 and Night 2 isn’t set in stone as of this writing, The Rock and Roman Reigns taking on Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins is sure to be placed in Night 1. So, let’s start with that. This does have significance as, if the Bloodline wins, the match between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship will become an Anything Goes match. If Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins wins, all members of the Bloodline will be barred from ringside.

Simply put, I do think Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins have to lose this match as it would allow for more drama. Having Cody Rhodes have to face off against the entire Bloodline during the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match in an Anything Goes match just seems like a bigger deal than just your regular 1-on-1 match. I would prefer the latter but, seeing how the WWE believes “bigger is better,” I have to go former.

The Judgement Day (Damien Priest and Finn Balor) vs. DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) vs. The Awesome Truth (R-Truth and The Miz) vs. The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) and TBA from the Smackdown Tournament for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship

It’s hard to give an accurate prediction as to who will win this as the Smackdown Tag Team Tournament to determine the final entrant has not been determined yet. However, based on their current momentum and general work ethic, I am predicting the New Catch Republic of Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate to make it in. Even if I’m wrong here, I don’t think whoever wins the Smackdown Tag Team Tournament is going to win anyways.

I do see The Awesome Truth winning the entire thing, with R-Truth getting the pin, specifically on Damien Priest somehow. This would be a nice bookend to R-Truth’s storyline with The Judgement Day and does factor into another prediction later in Wrestlemania.

LA Knight vs. AJ Styles

I haven’t really been drawn into the feud as it seemed to just happen. I do like trying to add some reality with the entire home invasion but I’m still not really buying the anger between the two. Still, I do like LA Knight and I also do like AJ Styles. So, I’m actually torn with who do I want to see win and who do I think will actually get his hand raised in the end.

In the end, the most logical choice would be for LA Knight to win just for the Wrestlemania pop it would generate. Yes, there would be a very vocal AJ Styles contingent who would be screaming their hearts out if The Phenomenal One eked out a victory. However, the cheers for an LA Knight win, which would be his very first Wrestlemania appearance ever.

Bianca Belair, Naomi and Jade Cargill vs. Damage CTRL (Asuka, Kairi Sane and Dakota Kai)

Well, I was wondering when Jade Cargill was going to make her WWE match debut and it looks like they’re shoehorning it at Wrestlemania. The weird thing for me is she’s siding with the face team of Bianca Belair and Naomi but it does factor into my prediction for this match.

I do think Jade Cargill’s team is going to get the pinfall victory here. However, they’ll also use this match to slowly show she doesn’t have any allegiances to her teammates. They’ll probably be a moment in the match where they’ll hint at Jade Cargill backstabbing her team but it won’t come to pass. They just need to plant the seed here.

Latino World Order (Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee) vs. Santos Escobar and Dominik Mysterio

Here’s another match which came out of nowhere. I do get why they’re putting this match together as it would be weird if Dominik Mysterio, currently the biggest heel in the WWE, wouldn’t be at Wrestlemania. So, having him in a program with his father, Rey Mysterio, just makes sense. Of course, you might as well have the feud between the LWO and Legado Del Fantasma mixed in as well.

It’s hard for me to give a solid prediction on who’s going to win here as I can see either team winning to have their respective pros and cons. However, in the end, I do think the LWO team has to win it as what would be a bigger pop than seeing Rey Mysterio beat down on Dominik Mysterio?

Jey Uso vs Jimmy Uso

The classic brother vs. brother match. I do feel the hype for this match isn’t as high as it should be because of how much The Rock vs. Cody Rhodes has dominated the buildup to Wrestlemania. I do believe this match will sort of factor into the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match in Night 2.

I’m predicting Jimmy Uso going over Jey here but through shenanigans. Solo Sikoa will interfere in the match, doing something like trying to hit Jey Uso but striking Jimmy by mistake and the referee will catch it and disqualify Jey. It’s also possible Jimmy would want to prove he’s better than Jey so he won’t appreciate Solo Sikoa interfering.

Logan Paul vs. Randy Orton vs. Kevin Owens for the United States Championship

I do wish this was just Logan Paul vs Randy Orton for the Intercontinental Championship. I do like Kevin Owens a lot but, call me crazy, I do like myself more straightforward 1-on-1 matches at Wrestlemania. Besides, having the entire “they’re friends but can turn on each other” story between Kevin Owens and Randy Orton feels contrived.

Still, I do think Logan Paul’s had a good run with the title but it’s time for a full-time WWE Superstar to have the United States Championship belt wrapped around his waist. I do see Kevin Owens winning but to Randy Orton’s expense. Owens will shove Orton off Paul after The Viper hits an RKO on The Maverick to get the pinfall. This will ignite a feud between the two while Logan Paul goes on a sabbatical.

GUNTHER vs Sami Zayn for the Intercontinental Championship

You gotta love a good underdog story. GUNTHER is now the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion as is still going strong. Sami Zayn has had to claw his way back to title contender and the hearts of the WWE Universe. He even had to go through a grueling gauntlet match just to have the unenviable task of taking on GUNTHER at Wrestlemania for the Intercontinental Championship.

This one’s a tough one to call. My heart is screaming for Sami Zayn to win but I don’t think it’s time for GUNTHER to drop the title yet. Unfortunately, I have to go with my brain instead of my gut and predict GUNTHER will still make it out of Wrestlemania with the Intercontinental Championship after a long and hard fought battle. I do hope I’m wrong, though.

IYO SKY vs Bayley for the Smackdown Women’s Championship

Oh, how much Damage CTRL has grown. Before, I would lament how the WWE was botching the group’s booking with them losing pretty much every match they were involved in. Now, it looks like Damage CTRL has all of the gold, including the Women’s Tag Team Championships and the Smackdown Women’s Championship. Bayley, however, doesn’t take too kindly to having her group turn on her. So, she won the Royal Rumble and is now facing Damage CTRL member, IYO SKY, for the title. A storyline 2 years in a making!

I have a feeling Bayley is going to get the win here just because of the feels it would generate at Wrestlemania. Bayley has always been rather underappreciated so giving her the win over IYO SKY would give a huge pop. Besides, I don’t think it would damage Damage CTRL’s current reputation and it might also give Dakota Kai the impetus to take the reins of the group and say she wants to bring back the gold to the group from Bayley.

Rhea Ripley vs Becky Lynch for the RAW Women’s Championship

Rhea Ripley has done a stunning job as the de facto leader of The Judgement Day as well as the current RAW Women’s Champion. However, Becky Lynch has been a proven draw also. While this feud doesn’t really have any bad blood as the story is Becky Lynch wants to be RAW Women’s Champion, this should still prove to be an interesting match.

In the end, however, I do see Rhea Ripley getting the win over Becky Lynch. As much as I like The Man, Rhea Ripley is just too white hot right now for her to drop the title. It would be interesting to see her try to claw her way back but I do think it would be a mistake to change her storyline at this time.

Seth Rollins vs Drew McIntyre for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

This is going to be a weird match as, while it’s booked as Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre for RAW’s biggest prize, the mystery ingredient here is CM Punk as he’s going to be the guest commentator for this match. I can’t really figure out how CM Punk will factor in here clearly. Will he stick his nose into the match, causing someone to win? Will either Seth Rollins or Drew McIntyre goad the Second City Saint to interfere? Will CM Punk just call the match and make the save in the end? I don’t really know!

So, this is my best guess but I don’t really think CM Punk will be a factor in the result here. However, I do think Drew McIntyre will get the best of Seth Rollins. As far as I know, Seth Rollins is plagued with injuries so he does need some time to heal up. Having him drop the title to the Scottish Warrior just make a whole lot of sense. Still, they’re need a storyline reason for Seth to be out of action, so Drew will beat on him afterwards and CM Punk will chase McIntyre off.

However, there will be a twist here as this is when Damien Priest will try to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase. You would think CM Punk would try to stop it but he won’t. He’ll just step aside and allow it to happen, leading to Damien Priest becoming the NEW WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes in an Anything Goes Match for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship

Remember, I said The Bloodline was going to win in Night 1, which is why this match will follow Anything Goes rules. Sure, they can call it a Bloodline Rules match, but it’s basically an Anything Goes/No DQ match. However, I don’t think it’ll matter all that much as Jimmy will turn on the Bloodline here because of what happened during his match with Jey, which I talked about. The Rock will try to insert himself in but will be rendered a non-factor as this is a Bloodline Rules/Anything Goes/No DQ match and Cody Rhodes will get some retribution here, taking him out with something like the belt The Rock used during his backstage brawl.

Honestly, the WWE would be incredibly stupid if they had Roman Reigns walk out of Wrestlemania as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion and not have Cody win it. Fans were already upset last year when he lost. Fans also got upset when they had Cody Rhodes almost give the match to The Rock after he won the Royal Rumble. Do the right thing, WWE!

Byee!
