Five Inconsequential Questions From The Marvels

It’s been a while since I’ve delved into the wide world of inconsequential questions. That’s primarily because I haven’t been to the movies lately. So, some movies that should be fodder for this topic, such as DC’s The Flash and Blue Beetle, didn’t get the chance to make me scratch my noggin and ask the really… not-so hard-hitting questions.

But with Marvel releasing The Marvels over the weekend, I decided to change that.

It about time I went back in asking the questions people don’t care to ask because who else is going to do it? So, I went to the movies and saw the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe film. I will give a more straightforward review later in the week. But for right now, I’ll just be focusing on some of the more silly things that popped into my brain while watching The Marvels.

Oh, and it goes without saying that this is all SPOILERS as I will be talking about specifics things that came up within the film. You have been warned about the SPOILERS now. So, let’s go to the questions!

#1 Why is one of the space bracelets/bangles on Earth in the first place?

I will preface this question by stating I have not watch Ms. Marvel as of yet because… reasons. I did, however, look into it beforehand and none of my research does tackle this.

Anyway, from what I’ve gathered, Kamala Khan inherited this heirloom from her grandmother and, when she put it on, it awakened some hidden potential within her to create “hard light” constructs. The bracelet itself does have inherit abilities as well, granting the wearer the power of teleportation and time travel. In Ms. Marvel, the bracelet/bangle is being hunted down by a group known as the Clandestines who need the item so they can go back to their own dimension or something like that.

But, in the Marvels, it’s revealed that Ms. Marvel’s bracelet/bangle has a seemingly alien origin as the movie’s villain, Dar-Benn, and the Kree found the other bracelet/bangle on an alien planet. So how did one bracelet/bangle end up on Earth while its accompanying pair on a planet lightyears away from Earth? It’s even mentioned it’s a Kree legend so I’m assuming it’s an alien artifact but why was one of them buried in some tomb on Earth? How did it get there?

Speaking of the Kree…

#2 How did the Kree destroy Hala’s sun?

Well, would you call an evil supercomputer evil if it’s actually doing some good?

In Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers, AKA the titular Captain Marvel, vows to go to Hala, the Kree homeworld, and destroy the Supreme Intelligence. Well, it turns out she did just that in between that film and The Marvels. This did leave a power vacuum and a civil war amongst the Kree, which destroyed the planet’s atmosphere and ecosystem. Even the sun was not spared as, apparently, they wrecked that as well.

Call me naive, but I can’t see, for the life of me, how a civil war, even between a highly advanced race like the Kree, would lead to them destroying their sun? Sure, wrecking the atmosphere and causing their oceans to run dry, I can believe that. But the sun? What the heck could they do to their sun to destroy it. Furthermore, why would they even attack their sun? I would think a highly advanced race as the Kree would kind of know the sun is a neutral party as it gives both sides sunlight. Was there some idiot Kree scientist who thought “We should destroy the sun because it’s a two-faced traitor for helping both sides”?

Speaking of their oceans running dry…

#3 Did the Kree return the ocean they stole from the singing planet?

I guess they’re not singing now, are they?

So, the Marvels figure out that Dar-Benn is using the bracelet/bangle to open up portals to steal the resources from other planet. They figure out she’s going to target the water planet of Aladna, where Carol Danvers is married to the prince and everyone sings because… movie. Anyway, Dar-Benn is successful and the planet is drained of its water.

Fast forward to the end of the movie, Captain Marvel uses her powers to restore the Kree homeworld’s sun back to its former glory, which she could’ve done at anytime but that’s another story. Anyway, the Krees are now happy as their planet can recover. Still, Aladna had its water stolen. Are the Kree going to return the water? And, if they’re going to do it, how would they do it since Dar-Benn is dead and she appears to be the only one who can create these portals?

Speaking of the Krees…

#4 Why didn’t the Kree just find another “homeworld”?

Some colonizers the Kree turned out to be…

As mentioned before, Dar-Benn’s goal is to restore the Kree homeworld of Hala back to its former glory. This is why she’s stealing the resources of other planets and, at the same time, getting some form of revenge against Captain Marvel for destroying the Supreme Intelligence and causing the Kree Civil War, which led to her planet’s current predicament.

Anyway, Carol Danvers does mention that the Kree used to have colonized around a quarter of the galaxy in the past. Not really sure what happened as it seems that number isn’t accurate anymore. Maybe the Kree Civil War had something to do with that? But that’s not my question. My question is why the Kree just leave the planet and colonize another world? Sure, I understand they have some sentimental attachment to Hala… but it is a wrecked planet. I don’t understand why this heavily populated planet still has that many people on it. Why aren’t more people trying to find other livable planets to colonize again?

Speaking of heavy populations…

#5 Why are there so many flerken eggs on the SABER space station?

Gotta love how battle ready SABER personnel are running away like scared children from kittens.

I’m not exactly a cat person but I like them just fine. That’s why it was nice to see Goose back in The Marvels. This time, it appears Goose isn’t the only flerken around as flerkin eggs suddenly start popping up on Nick Fury’s SABER station. This turns out to be a stroke of good fortune as these little kitties are able to “eat” most of the SABER personnel so they can be transferred back to earth safely as they only have one functioning escape pod left.

Still, why did these flerken eggs start popping on the station in the first place? I guess they could be Goose’s eggs or whatever they’re supposed to be. But why are there so many all of a sudden? If they are Goose’s eggs, why didn’t see do this while travelling out in space with Captain Marvel? Also, I’m not a flerken biologist but I would assume Goose would have needed to meet a male flerken to have children? When did that happen?

Speaking of Nick Fury…

BONUS: What was the point of having Nick Fury in the film?

No, really. Why is he here?

If you look at The Marvels entire story, it’s kind of hard to see what Nick Fury offers to the proceedings. I guess he does save most of the SABER personnel by flying a ship out with all the flerkens. He also does shoot some Kree soldiers on the space elevator thingie. But, honestly, this role could’ve been fulfilled with some clever rewriting. Nick Fury is virtually useless here. So, why even have him? I guess it’s because he has a connection with Carol Danvers but even that is rendered moot as Captain Marvel has to try to mend her relationship with Monica Rambeau and form a bond with Kamala Khan. So, why is he here again?
