Hiya!
You gotta admit Capcom did a great job with Street Fighter 6’s graphics. However, that doesn’t mean each and every characters in the roster were created equal when it came to their looks. The game does have a good mishmash of really gorgeous looking character designs as well as some, let’s just say, less desirable ones.
So, let’s go check out who I think are the best dressed and the worst looking characters in Street Fighter 6, starting with the 3rd and moving all the way to #1. We’ll also be alternating between the not so good looking characters to the more appealing ones and so on. I just want to end this on a good note.
#3 Worst: Dhalsim (Costume 2)
When Street Fighter II was still new, I bet fans all thought everyone was stylish and fresh. 30 years have passed since then and, while all the characters have become iconic, some of their designs do look outdated now. The epitome of this would be Dhalsim as his old design just doesn’t match what Capcom was going for him then and, most especially, now.
The Dhalsim we know is a very kind and wise mystic who fights only when necessary, which is why his later design of wearing a beard and a loose fitting robe covering his lower body fits his humble attitude. This is heavily juxtaposed to his original design where he looks like some creepy undead zombie who wears his victims’ skulls around his neck. Oh, they’re the skulls of the children who died in his village? That’s doesn’t make it any less creepy, does it? What’s worse is, since the graphics are so much better and in HD now, Dhalsim’s nostalgia costume looks even more unnerving! Eww!
#3 Best: JP (Costume 2)
In what seemed like forever, Capcom finally moved the timeline beyond Street Fighter III as Street Fighter 6 takes place after the events of that game. They also made another bold decision of killing off longtime villain M. Bison (for the time being at least) and JP being the series new big bad. Unlike M. Bison, JP has a ton of style. His Outfit 1 already looks good and stylish but, when he really wants to show off his great taste in clothing, JP will don a much more fancy suit with Outfit 2.
JP’s Outfit 2 has so much going for it. It’s both classy and gaudy all at the same time. Not only does this have JP fighting in a colorful three-piece suit, he’s also goes into battle with a really nice looking coat on. He also has the class to fight with a nice Fedora on, which matches well with his cane, by the way. Oh, you’ll also notice JP went to the salon to trim his gorgeous looking silver locks to make them a little neater to make him look just a little bit more dapper than before.
#2 Worst: Luke (Costume 1)
To be fair, Luke’s standard Street Fighter 6 design is leagues better than what he looked like in Street Fighter V. You would think Capcom would’ve done a much better job with his look as he was the last character to be released in Street Fighter V, but they didn’t! The weird oversized MMA shorts, dumb looking “V” tattoo plastered on his chest and those oversized forearms with little stars dotting them made him look like a colossal idiot. In Street Fighter 6, well, he still looks like an idiot… but not a colossal idiot, at least.
While his current look is an improvement, Luke still has a lot of things which makes him unappealing. His weird penchant of wearing very tight clothing is very off-putting. Couldn’t he find a more loose fitting Whataburger undershirt and jogging pants? From the way he’s dressed, the tightness may be cutting off the blood circulation to his brain. Luke’s not the first Street Fighter character to be battling barefoot but, for some reason, he comes off as the weirdest barefoot fighter and he’s fully dressed but opts to walk around without any footwear. Oh, I also don’t like his dumb haircut. Ugh!
#2 Best: Cammy (Costume 1)
As mentioned with Dhalsim, I appreciate all the effort Capcom made with most of the original World Warriors. As it’s been years since Street Fighter II, it only makes sense they’ve matured and dress more like adults. Among all of the redesigns, however, one stands head over shoulders above the others. That would be Cammy’s new look in Street Fighter 6.
Among all of the original Street Fighter 2 character redesigns, Cammy has the most drastic one. Gone is the green leotard, long braid and red beret. Even though she’s revealing much less skin, Cammy is still a head turner with her skintight yoga pants and matching sports bra. She’s also covering up her arms with her signature gloves but adding a blue leather jacking sporting the Union Jack embossed on the back. Her hair is cropped short but still manages to frame her face beautifully. Honestly, the only thing keeping it from being the best costume in Street Fighter 6 is I wish Capcom kept the beret on her.
#1 Worst: Blanka (Costume 1)
Wouldn’t you know it? I was just saying how fantastic the updated designs were for the Street Fighter 2 characters! The sad thing is the exception to the rule just had to be the new outfit I actively dislike. If I think with my head, I understand what Capcom was going for with Blanka’s new look. If I listen to my heart, however, I just can’t get behind it.
Capcom chose to make Blanka look more ape-like rather than some fearsome beast in Street Fighter 6. This is why he has more comical and goofy looking facial features. He’s also wearing overalls to invoke a more child-like attitude as it makes him come off as more naive and innocent. It makes sense as Blanka is now actively trying to be more approachable despite his fearsome appearance. I get that. However, I do think they could’ve done so much better.
If it was Capcom’s attempt to make him more naive of the ways of the world, they could’ve made Blanka less country hick and dress him up what a kid thinks adults wear when they want to look respectable. Give him an ill-fitting long sleeved shirt and tie and pants bursting at the seams. Give him accessories like a wristwatch because it’s what adults wear, right? I know my suggestion isn’t everyone’s cup of tea… but I can only write from my point of view and I think it would work for Blanka.
#1 Best Manon (Costume 2)
For any character costume to really work, not only should it make he or she look cool, it should also fit their personality. This is precisely the reason why Manon’s secondary outfit is the best outfit right now in Street Fighter 6. In retrospect, her 2nd costume makes her original outfit look plain, even though it still works for her!
Manon, as a character, exudes style and confidence. As a gold medal winning judoka and international supermodel, it should come natural for her to be fearless, especially when it comes to what she wears. It’s something your average Joe would never even conceive of wearing in public! Imagine seeing someone walking around wearing a tube top with sleeves, an outlandish poofy short jacket, latex leggings with frilly lace to simulate a ballerina skirt, full fingered leather gloves, a matching bedazzled bracelet and belt, peep-toe flats, a choker with a gold medal dangling in the front and oversized boxy sunglasses. You’d probably laugh your butt off. With Manon, you can’t! All you’d do is stare at awe with how she ties it all together into one stylish package.
Byee!
