I’ll Review Anything: Bad Blood (Remix)

Remember when Madonna was the biggest music superstar on the planet? I don’t. I’m sorry but she was just way before my time! The first song Madonna song that I can remember hearing was “Ray of Light.” It was a pretty cool song but, now that I’ve heard her much earlier songs from the 80’s were much better. Now, I can’t even bear to listen to her more recent works!

Sadly, I think we’re coming to the “Ray of Light” point of Taylor Swift’s career. All of her best songs seem to be behind her now. I understand that she’s trying to appear to be more “grown up” as she can’t stay a teenager forever (or can she?). But does that mean we had to get Bad Blood?

This song makes me wish I reviewed Blank Space when it was just released because that may be the very last Taylor Swift song that I thought of in a positive way. One of the reasons is that, even if it doesn’t really sound like a traditional Taylor Swift piece of music, it’s still distinctively hers. The lyrics are definitely her style and suits Taylor Swift’s… brand, I guess is the most appropriate word.

Now, we have Bad Blood. Now, the first version I heard was the “remix” version featuring Kendrick Lamar. One of the things I did when the release date came was to search for it on YouTube. I was hoping that Bad Blood would be like Blank Space, which was, for me, a return to form for Taylor Swift. However, I actually felt alienated by this version of Bad Blood.

I didn't know they were filming a new Sin City?

I didn’t know they were filming a new Sin City?

This song reminds me of Eminem’s Love The Way You Lie and Iggy Azalea’s Fancy. And guess what? Love The Way You Lie isn’t known as a Rihanna song; it’s Eminem’s! And Fancy? That’s still Iggy’s song even though the song is more famous for Charli XCX’s awesome vocal work! I actually think it would be more appropriate if it was Kendrick Lamar’s song featuring Taylor Swift!

But this doesn’t mean that it’s a bad song. It is pretty good by itself. The uptempo beat is fun to listen to. I’m not a huge rap fan but I do know what I like and I like Kendrick Lamar’s “flow” throughout the song. He changes the rhythm so it’s always interesting. Sadly, the thing I didn’t care for? Taylor Swift singing the refrain! I can’t blame the actual singing, though, as Taylor Swift still sounds good. But the actual tune is bad! It’s just not catchy. It was just boring and repetitive!

I then found out that this was the remix version. In all honesty, I would’ve never have figured it out because, usually they note it down in the title that they are remixes. Not with Bad Blood! So, I sought out the original version and, guess what? I can’t find it on YouTube! What the heck? All I can find are covers of the song but the original audio version is nowhere to be found!

I did a little digging regarding the song and, apparently, most reviewers didn’t like the original version. Is it that bad that Taylor Swift and company decided to wipe it off the Internet? That’s the only scenario I can think of as to why it’s not available anywhere!

Overall, Bad Blood remix is just an okay song for me. I’m very disappointed with it though because I can’t really say it’s a Taylor Swift song. I do wish I could find a copy of the original version. But, if it sucks as bad as most reviewers are saying, then maybe it’s better that I don’t. Because of this, I can’t help but think that Taylor Swift has already passed her prime.

I do hope I’m wrong, Taylor Swift. I still love you a lot. But if this is the direction your headed then, like your song says, “Now we’ve got problems. And I don’t think we can solve them.”
