Five Inconsequential Questions from Supergirl (2026)

Well, it’s not looking all that swell for DC and Warner Bros. While the new DC Universe film franchise was had a super start with James Gunn‘s Superman, things aren’t looking so good for Superman‘s cousin, Supergirl, as her own movie isn’t doing so well, both critically and financially. I personally thought the movie was just okay but “okay” just doesn’t cut it nowadays, especially when it comes to superhero movies.

There were definitely some issues with the overall script, which is disappointing since James Gunn said it was “incredible.” That’s certainly… one way to describe it. But because of this, shall we say, “interesting” script, a lot of questions did pop up in my head. Not necessarily really huge plot holes or anything like that. Rather, these are the questions that are relatively inconsequential to the story… but I still have to ask them.

By the way, as I will be talking about certain plot points from the Supergirl movie, I will be bringing out the SPOILER warning now. You have been warned! With that out of the way, here are five rather inconsequential questions I have about Supergirl.

#1 What happened to the weapons stash Ruthye‘s father was hiding?

At the start of the film, we get to see why Ruthye wants to hunt down Krem of the Yellow Hills. Krem when to her father as he is a master weapons crafter. They do agree to give him their hidden stash of weapons but Ruthye’s brother (idiotically) tries to frighten his sister. this startles Krem and he shoots him. This leads to Ruthye’s parents to fight back but they’re also killed by Krem. This leads to Ruthye getting his father’s sword and she goes into the nearest tavern to try to hire someone who will track Krem down so she can kill her.

But what happened to the weapons cache Krem was going to get? I mean, the mother only had a key and it’s implied the father made a lot of weapons but he hid them. So, was the sword the only weapon in this so-called stash? If not, why did Ruthye only get the sword? Why didn’t she arm herself with more weapons and then use that to try to entice, I don’t know, more mercenaries to hunt down Krem? Why only get one highly crafted, well-made sword to hire one person when you can get several highly crafted, well-made swords to hire several people?

Speaking of payments…

#2 How does Supergirl afford her hedonistic lifestyle?

Ruthye does find Supergirl and Krypto in the bar when trying to get people to fight for her cause. She’s pretty much wasted as she’s been drinking and partying, partially because it’s her birth week but mostly to drown out the pain and trauma of Argo City and her old life dying. She just so happened to be on Ruthye’s planet as it had a red sun and, because of her being a Kryptonian, can only get drunk when she loses her powers, which happens when in proximity to a red sun. She does decide to go after Krem when the villain shoots Krypto with a poisoned dart that will kill the poor pooch in three days.

But how does she afford all of the drinks? I mean, I would assume, even on other planets, you have to pay for stuff, right? That would include all of the liquor she drinks in order to get drunk. In fact, how does Supergirl pay for any of the stuff you see her take? She takes a space bus and I guess that costs space money. She takes a spacesuit for Ruthye and something I like to call popcorn bugs from a rest stop. Those should also cost space money as well. Does Supergirl get odd jobs while on the planet? I mean, unless there’s a standardized galactic currency, she would need to use the money on that specific planet, right?

Speaking of Krypto getting poisoned…

#3 Why is Krem the only one using poisoned darts?

Supergirl’s history with Krypto is a long one. In fact, Krypto was a stray back on Argo City but Supergirl took the puppy in. So, they have a strong bond as they’ve gone through a lot. This makes it understandable why Supergirl decided to go on a galactic journey to find Krem after the leader off the brigands poisons Krypto. It turns out Krem and the brigands are the only ones who have the antidote to the poison. So, Supergirl needs to get to Krem and get the antidote before Krypto dies.

But this does seem weird as Krem appears to be the only one who uses poisoned darts to fight. The other brigands use standard projectile weapons and the like. So, why is Krem the only one who does? I mean, it’s not like the brigands don’t have access to the poison because, in one scene, Supergirl is tricked into drinking the poison. So, it is something the brigands love to use. If that’s the case, why don’t the other brigands use it when fighting? It’s already proven to be highly effective and they also would have the antidote so it can be use to incapacitate their foes and, once they do, they can use the antidote once they actually capture them.

Speaking of the other brigands…

#4 Who put the bounty on that one brigand Lobo wants to get?

So, Lobo is in the movie. He appears when Supergirl and Ruthye get a lead as to where Krem and the brigands are. It turns out Lobo is also looking for them. Well, not exactly. As an intergalactic bounty hunter, he’s only looking for one specific brigand only as that brigand has a price on his head. He just so happens across Supergirl in the same bar as she’s also looking for leads on Krem and the brigands.

But who put the bounty on that brigand? And why just that specific brigand? It kind of makes you wonder what that brigand did? I mean, the group has done a whole lot of nasty stuff before. The group is already feared so why did a specific person or persons have a grudge big enough to put a bounty on a exact brigand. Did that brigand do something outside of the group? Or was he part of a group that did something bad but he did something specifically heinous enough to be singled out?

Speaking of leads on the brigands…

#5 Why do the Skarlian Raiders know where the brigands are going to be?

Early in the journey, Supergirl and Ruthye run across pirates known as Skarlian Raiders. The Skarlian Raiders try to take as much technology there is and they so happen to attack the space bus Supergirl and Ruthye are riding. Supergirl manages to subdue them after getting her powers back. After tying them up, Supergirl interrogates them to try to see if they know where the brigands are and, true enough, the Skarlian Raiders do.

But why to the Skarlian Raiders have that information? I mean, what would their connection to the brigands be? Is it because they’re intergalactic bad guys and all intergalactic bad guys know what each group is doing? Is it so they don’t do a raid on a specific planet when the other group is doing one themselves? Do they have something like an intergalactic Zoom call to make sure they don’t accidentally run into each other?

BONUS: Couldn’t Zor-El have released the plans of Jor-El escape pod to Argo City’s population?

During the dying days of Argo City, Zor-El decided to go back and look at the plans of Jor-El’s escape pod back when Krypton exploded. Unfortunately, he only could create one and he used it to allow her daughter to escape to Earth. Zor-El’s daughter would then become Supergirl.

But that seems a little unfair, right? He only could build one escape pod? He didn’t try to build more? If he couldn’t, why didn’t he just give the plans to the other scientists of Argo City? Was he the only one smart enough to construct it? Were there only enough materials for one? I guess it could be explained that there would be mass panic if the entire population found out about the singular escape pod as everyone would be vying to use it for themselves. Still, it seems weird Zor-El could only make one.
