I have yet to play Resident Evil: Requiem but I have been watching a lot of Let’s Plays of the game. From what I’ve seen, the game, while having a satisfying conclusion for the most part, asks more questions than giving answers. Questions like how deep do The Connections organization’s tentacles run deep? The biggest unanswered question that fans are asking, however, is who is Leon Kennedy married to?
Yes, in the good ending of Resident Evil Requiem, Leon Kennedy is cured of his T-Virus infection and he finally removes the glove on his left hand. Eagle eyed gamers have noticed he puts on a wedding ring on his now cured hand, strongly suggesting Leon Kennedy tied the knot with someone. The game doesn’t hint on who this mystery woman is and Capcom is decidedly being mum on the entire topic.
So, who is this Missus Leon S. Kennedy? Well, the answer isn’t as cut and dry as most people think, at least from my perspective. Sure, we all love our own headcanon but that’s not necessarily canon. So, let me try to guess based on Leon’s previous possible paramours from the Resident Evil series on who the lucky lady is. To make things a little more fun, I am going to be ranking them starting with the least likely to the most likely. Side note: I have a strong feeling a lot of you readers are not going to like this. Then again, like I said, we all love our own headcanon… and this is mine!
#7 Unnamed Ex-Girlfriend
Did you ever wonder why Leon Kennedy was late for his first day on the job of Raccoon City‘s Police Department? Well, he had a hangover! Yes, according to Capcom and Resident Evil canon, the clean cut Leon Kennedy got blind drunk before his first day of work! He isn’t an alcoholic, though. The night before, his girlfriend broke up with him and he decided to drown his sorrows. He then slept it off in a motel and overslept.
In a way, this unnamed ex-girlfriend both saved and ruined Leon’s life. She inadvertently saved him as he wasn’t in Raccoon City when the outbreak started. She also ruined him because, after surviving the outbreak, he could not stay the same wide-eyed optimistic rookie he was before. While there is a chance Leon reconnected with her, I highly doubt it. So, this unnamed ex-girlfriend is the last on this list.
Next on my list of possible Leon Kennedy wives is Ashley Graham. The former President of the United States’ daughter Leon was sent to rescue in Resident Evil 4 is definitely a dark horse in this competition. I have seen a lot of fans half-jokingly say it might be her as Leon drives around in a slick Porshe in Resident Evil Requiem. As the former President’s daughter, Ashley should have the moolah and the pull to give Leon that kind of ride.
However, let’s be real here. Throughout the entirety of Resident Evil 4, both the original and the Remake, have you seen Leon show any interest in Ashley? I mean, it’s obvious Ashley slowly became infatuated with her knight in shining armor as the game progressed. Leon, however, remained as stoic as ever, never getting tempted by this easy catch. So, basically, Ashley is just not Leon’s type.
In Resident Evil 6, which takes place around 8 years after Resident Evil 4, there isn’t a hint of Leon ever hooking up with Ashley as well. So, if they didn’t start a relationship before Resident Evil 6, then I don’t think they’ll ever get married. So, the odds of Leon tying the know with Ashley is pretty low.
#5 Ada Wong
This is the entry I’m going to get in a lot of trouble for as she’s so low on my possibility list. Before you get all angry, hear me out first!
When it comes to the women who is shipped with Leon Kennedy, the woman that most frequently comes to mind is Ada Wong. Even way back in Resident Evil 2, both the original and the Remake, the two obviously had a little something something going on between them. You could feel the chemistry brewing among the two. In every Resident Evil game which had Leon as a playable character, you can bet Ada Wong will be there. You can also bet the two of them will flirt in some way.
While she is one of the more popular candidates for Missus Leon S. Kennedy, do you really think Leon would marry her? They are both diametrically opposites when it comes to ideology! Leon believes in justice and fighting for the little guy. That’s one of the reasons why he became a cop and why he’s such a great hero character. Ada believes in fighting for money, which is the biggest reason why she’s Resident Evil’s best anti-heroes!
Yes, there is sexual tension between them but that’s simply not enough for a sustainable marriage! Besides, can you see Ada Wong “settling down” with a do-gooder like Leon? I don’t think so! So, while this pairing is definitely a fan favorite, I just don’t see it happening, which is why it’s so low on my list. Don’t hurt me!
Resident Evil Requiem actually strongly hints Leon and Sherry are married. Okay, “strongly” might not be the right word but there are indeed some moments which suggests this. The biggest proof is Sherry is she is wearing a ring as well. Of course, people will point out she’s wearing it on her pinky finger and not her ring finger. There is a rebuttal to that as, in the scene where you do see Sherry with the ring on her pinky finger, you can clearly see her ring finger is badly infected with the Raccoon City Syndrome. So, it would make sense to transfer the finger to her not-so infected digit. There is also some marking on her ring finger where a ring would be, once again suggesting it was on there before.
I also cannot deny the logic of them getting together after the events of Resident Evil 6. Before the events of that game, Leon and Sherry hadn’t seen each other for over a decade. While Leon did think of Sherry as a kid and Sherry probably thought of Leon as a big brother figure back then, they’ve aged a whole lot since then! Some might also question the age gap as Sherry was only 12 and Leon was around 21 during Resident Evil 2. That’s a 9-year age gap and that may seem icky to a lot of people, I do know couples who are in love in a similar situation. So, it still works… I guess?
Even if the logic makes sense, my emotions override all that. I simply refuse to think Leon would go for Sherry as, even though she’s legal when they reconnect in Resident Evil 6. It’s just not in Leon’s character to fall for this person who he knew as a child. However, sadly, because of the evidence at hand, I do have to place Sherry higher than Ada. Again, don’t hurt me!
Now, here’s another dark horse candidate for Missus Leon S. Kennedy. Helena Harper was Leon’s partner throughout Resident Evil 6. Essentially, these two worked remarkably well together, considering they only just met during the start of Leon’s campaign. Despite being a huge reason why the President was assassinated in Resident Evil 6, she is actually cleared of all charges as she was manipulated by Derek Simmons, the big bad guy of the game.
I do understand there isn’t that much sexual tension between the two of them shown in the game. However, they do have great chemistry with each other. They’re both serious people and have the same kind of idealistic ways of seeing the world, despite having to do crummy things to preserve this worldview. So, in this way, they match as well. Additionally, at the end of the game, Helena joins Leon’s division. So, the two could have worked a few more missions before finding out they can be more than partners and be a couple.
The biggest thing holding Helena back from being higher up on this list is she’s not that much of a fan favorite. Resident Evil 6 is considered to be the game which nearly killed the Resident Evil franchise. So, what do you think would be the reaction if Capcom had Leon Kennedy, the biggest fan favorite character in the series, married someone who came from what many consider to be the worst game in the series? People would get so upset with them! So, while Helena is actually very plausible, I don’t think Capcom would do this in order to not anger the fanbase.
Besides Ada Wong, probably the other strongest candidate when it comes to who might be Leon’s wife for a lot of fans is Claire Redfield. It does make a whole lot of sense. Both Leon and Claire have known each other since Resident Evil 2. Because of the events of that game, the two do share a very strong bond between each other. I really don’t like to mention the Resident Evil CGI films as they’ve shown to have a lot of respect between each other despite sometimes being at odds with each other because of how their lives are now. So, among all of the girls Leon has been with, it does seem he should have the closest bond with Claire.
It’s not a stretch to believe Leon and Claire started out as friends and bonded strongly with each other because of what happened to them in Resident Evil 2. After years and years of this close bond, it’s most certainly possible they started thinking “what if?” in their heads and then one of them actually popped this question out loud. It’s a very strong possibility. Also, among all of the main female protagonists in the Resident Evil games, this makes the most sense.
My only problem is that entire “what if?” scenario I just gave is just that. It’s something I made up in my head and there’s no canon event showing it actually happened. I also have never seen them actually show any romantic inclination. Sure, there’s a little flirting here and there but something serious? Not really. It’s possible but not confirmed, which did mean Claire got edged out of the number 1 spot for me. Once again, don’t hurt me!
This is a very controversial opinion. Out of all the women Leon S. Kennedy would propose to, I’m choosing the girl in the chair? Yes. Let me explain.
As I mentioned, you would think Leon has the strongest bond with Claire, right? They are both survivors of the Raccoon City outbreak after all. The thing is, I don’t think that’s accurate because the woman Leon actually has the strongest bond is with Ingrid Hunnigan, his support officer from Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 6. So, based on this, it would be safe the assume both Leona and Hunnigan have worked their share of missions together. Since he’s also survived all these missions, Leon trusts Hunnigan with his life. So, their bond is definitely strong.
However, the biggest evidence I have for pairing Leon and Hunnigan together is she is the only woman from the games he’s actually flirted with.
In a way, this also explains why it’s Sherry who’s the “woman in the chair” and not Hunnigan. I don’t think it would be prudent for Leon’s wife to be back in mission control anymore as she wouldn’t be able to remain objective. So, in my headcanon, either just before or after the events of Resident Evil 6, Leon did eventually ask Hunnigan for a date and the two hit it off. By Resident Evil Requiem, the two of them have gotten hitched. This honestly seems to be the most probable option. It might not be the best option even for me (I’m team Claire all the way) but it’s just the one which makes the most sense.
BONUS: Every gamer girl who’s thirsty for some Leon lovin’
Let’s face it: Leon S. Kennedy is one hot video game character and it’s no surprise how so many gamer girls are very attracted to him. Even though Leon is almost 50 years old in Requiem, they all agree he’s still got the rizz.
Now, imagine these gamer girls playing all the way to the end and getting the good ending. They see Leon get cured from Raccoon City Syndrome and all’s right with the world. Then they see Leon putting on his wedding ring back on. How many of them do you think will want to be the woman Leon married? Since Capcom never revealed who it is at this time, they can, for the time being, claim they’re actually Missus Leon S. Kennedy and they’re having his babies.
