Well, another month has passed with Street Fighter 6 and we’re getting another Fighting Pass. This month, for the November Fighting Pass, it’s all about Final Fight. Capcom crafted some sweet costumes where you can dress up your avatar to look like the (Former) Mayor of Metro City, Mike Haggar, and the Mad Gear Gang’s super weeb, Sodom. This new Fighting Pass also includes a few winks and nods to the series, like the OH MY CAR taunt/pose, as well as some Final Fight inspired banners.
But not a lot of hardcore Street Fighter fans are happy with this new Fighting Pass. This is because the game has been out for five months now and we still haven’t got any “real” DLC packs, namely new costumes for the actual roster. Sure, the starting roster have alternate costumes and you can get them for free if you work your butt off in World Tour mode. The new DLC characters like Rashid and AKI have them unlocked pretty much by default if you have the Season 1 Character Pass. But we still haven’t gotten any sweet new threads for them beyond that.
I understand how upsetting this is, especially since Capcom actually did show concept art for possible future DLC costumes for DeeJay, Guile, Marisa and Juri during EVO, which happened around August. And these costumes looked really sick! I will say you could see these costumes appear in the World Tour mode so I’m assuming other characters will eventually get new costumes derived here as well.
However, this does create a question: Why isn’t Capcom actually releasing these costumes already? As far as I know, the Street Fighter 6 team is pretty huge and they should’ve been able to craft these alternate outfits by now, especially if you take into account how many DLC costumes Capcom put out during Street Fighter V. While I’m also one of these people who want new costumes for the roster, I’m also fine with Capcom not releasing them right now.
Some people are theorizing that the costumes are getting delayed because of these monthly Fighting Pass releases. I don’t think this is the case. Sure, some resources are being taken away developing these Avatar outfits and the like but, really, do you think they take a lot of time to put together? The Avatar costumes look fine enough but they aren’t exactly the most details outfits they could put together. I’m assuming only a small team are assigned to actually do all of the Fighting Pass items, including the costumes.
The bulk of the team are most probably working on the Season 1 DLC characters. They’ve done a good job with Rashid and AKI and I can only assume they’re also working really hard to ensure Ed and Akuma will be up to snuff. I say this is where most of the team’s focus is on and rightfully so. If the costumes have to take a backseat while the folks at Capcom are tinkering with the new characters to make sure they are going to, not only be fun to play, but viable in a tournament, then so be it. Tinker away!
I sadly am predicting that each character’s third costume will actually be revealed with the release of Akuma. Why? Because I have the sneaking suspicion Capcom will release all of the new costumes all at once! This includes the third costume for all of the starting roster as well as the Season 1 DLC characters. That’s a little under two dozen new DLC costumes. You could argue that Capcom should let these costumes trickle out slowly for months instead of just opening up a dam of new costumes. But I do think there are a couple of reasons why they’re going to do it this way.
For one, they’re going to put out a DLC costume bundle. You can still buy the third outfit individually but the bundle will be at a “discounted” price. I put the word “discounted” in quotes as this costume bundle is still going to cost a pretty penny. Then again, each individual costume is probably going to be a whole heck expensive based on the previous Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle costume packs that were released a couple of months ago. But I do think Street Fighter fans would be more amenable to shelling out the bucks for alternate costumes for the actual roster than just Avatar skins.
I also believe Capcom will announced that the third costumes will also help fund the current Capcom Pro Tour. They’ll probably say something like a portion of the proceeds will be added to the prize pot or something like that. Sure, it’s supposed to tug at the fighting game community’s heartstrings but it’s an effective way to make parting with a ton of money easier. Not only are you getting a cool new costume for the entire roster, you’re also putting some money back to the fighting game community! Isn’t that nice?
This explains why I think Capcom has been very stingy with alternate costumes for the main Street Fighter cast. But why am I okay with it, though? Simply put, I’m still having a blast with Street Fighter 6 and I don’t really need the new costumes to add to my enjoyment just yet. I’m also actually enjoying each new Fighting Pass as it does give me a strong impetus to continue playing. You see, I always get the Premium Fighting Pass each month, which does involve paying 250 Fighting Coins to get it. The Premium Fighting Pass gives you access to everything and, if you really work at it, you can gain back the 250 Fighting Coins back! The process of regaining the Fighting Coins I spent usually takes me a couple of weeks. So, that’s two weeks of me just going to the Battle Hub and playing online against others!
Additionally, each time a new month rolls around, Capcom updates the Rewards tab with new goals, including one where you can get a bunch of Drive Tickets if you win 30 matches in the Battle Hub! Once again, it does take me a couple of weeks to do this. And it’s also incredibly fun to just count the wins you get. I also get incentivized to get better as it does force me to play above my level if there’s no one in the Battle Hub who’s at around the Platinum/Diamond rank, which I am right now. I’m actually surprised I’ve bested some Master rank players just because that player was the only one I could face off against!
Will I be overjoyed when Capcom does release the new costumes? Definitely. However, I don’t really need them right now. I fully expect them to open the floodgates and have all the costumes out by the time Capcom Cup rolls around or Akuma is out. That’s not too far off, as far as I know. So, yeah. I’m willing to wait at the moment because there’s still so much to play in Street Fighter 6’s current state.
What do you think of the lack of costumes in Street Fighter 6? Let me know in the comments section below!

I appreciate your positive outlook on the current state of Street Fighter 6. It’s great to hear that you are still enjoying the game and finding value in the monthly Fighting Pass updates. It’s understandable that some fans are eager for new costumes, but it’s refreshing to see your willingness to wait and appreciate the content that is already available. Keep having fun and enjoying the game!
